β³ SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT β BOYS R US β³
Every now and again we like to shine a light on the people and businesses that back the club. This week it's one that's close to our hearts here at RMCGC.
Boys R Us is a Canberra local, run by good blokes who know their way around a golf course. Off their website:
Purveyors of 'Boys R Us'
𧀠Cabretta leather golf gloves
π Bamboo tees, 54mm and 83mm
ποΈ Divot tools with ball markers
π Polos and caps
π Golf balls, as well as good times
π» "When the beers are on, the wheels are off" β unknown proverb from the back nine.
They're proud sponsors of the club. They put up the prizes for our famous Wine Run π· and they keep the clubhouse stocked with their gear. On top of all that, they're just deadset good people.
So if you're in the market for gloves, tees, balls, polos, caps or stubby holders, they've got you covered. Support the team that supports us. π

Told you so! Donβt worry about your competition score - itβs the life score that counts! π§ ππ©»β
Regularly playing golf can reduce the risk of both dementia and coronary heart disease by up to 30%. This substantial benefit is primarily driven by the consistent cardiovascular exercise built into the game; especially if you walk an entire 18-hole courseβwhich typically translates into walking several milesβyou significantly increase your blood circulation, stimulate metabolic activity, and optimize the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your vital organs. The steady, moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity associated with golfing also helps lower systemic blood pressure, regulate cholesterol levels, and improve overall arterial flexibility. Because cardiovascular health is directly linked to brain health, the sustained blood flow generated on the course directly counters the vascular degradation that frequently leads to vascular dementia and adverse cardiac events.
In addition to protecting the heart, golf provides an immersive mental and social workout that actively preserves cognitive reserve. A round of golf requires continuous spatial awareness, complex physical coordination, and strategic calculationsβsuch as measuring distances, factoring in wind, and visualizing precise ball trajectories. This combination of physical movement and deep problem-solving stimulates the brainβs neuroplasticity and strengthens neural connections. Furthermore, the inherently social nature of the sport prevents isolation, which is a major independent risk factor for cognitive decline. By merging moderate exercise with target-oriented cognitive tasks and community engagement, golf serves as a powerful lifestyle intervention that staves off structural brain deterioration and coronary blockages simultaneously.
