Olympic Weightlifting Club - Cairns 🌴

19/07/2026

Saturday marked our first ever Youth Lifting Session, and what a success it was.

There were a few nerves before stepping onto the platform, but every one of our young athletes backed themselves, gave it a go and absolutely nailed it.

Watching them lift, support one another and grow in confidence was something pretty special. This feels like the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Dungeon Barbell Club and youth weightlifting in our community.

A huge shout-out to Nina and Taylah for getting the athletes warmed up, prepared and ready to step onto the platform with confidence. Your support made the experience so positive for every young lifter involved.

The first of many. đź’Ş

These events only happen because of the people working behind the scenes.

To our bar loaders, MC, referees, technical officials, coaches, volunteers and everyone who helped keep the platform running, thank you.

A club round might look simple from the outside, but it takes a whole team to create a smooth, supportive and memorable experience for every lifter who steps onto the platform.

We’re incredibly grateful for the time, energy and care you give to our athletes and our club.

This event was possible because of you. đź’ś

Our next Dungeon Barbell Club weightlifting round is coming up Saturday 18 July, and registrations close this Saturday.

We’ll have three groups lifting on the day:

Youth lifters
Male lifters

This is a great chance to get on the platform, put your training to the test, and be part of the club atmosphere.

Whether it’s your first comp or you’ve lifted before, this is what club rounds are all about, experience, confidence, community, and having a crack.

Registrations close this Saturday, so don’t leave it too late.

Get on it, team. Make sure you don’t miss out.

Any questions, speak to Jim or message us directly.

Saturday was another reminder of what this sport is really built on.

Athletes stepping onto the platform.
Referees giving up their time.
Loaders moving plates between attempts.
Coaches in corners.
Families staying late.
People cheering for lifts that weren’t even their own.

That’s what keeps weightlifting alive.

Not massive crowds.
Not money.

Community.

Just good people coming together because they care about the sport and the people inside it.

Thank you to every single person who played a part in making the night happen.

To the lifters who put themselves out there.
To the referees, loaders and volunteers who helped everything run smoothly.
To everyone who stayed back, supported others, clapped loudly, loaded bars, packed up and contributed to the atmosphere inside the gym.

This is how strong communities are built.

One platform.
One night.
One shared effort at a time.

Proud of what’s growing here at Dungeon Barbell Club. 💜

Some people think progress in weightlifting comes from motivation.

It doesn’t.

It comes from showing up when the excitement wears off.

The lifters who improve aren’t always the strongest.
They’re the ones who keep turning up.

One session at a time.
One rep at a time.
One small improvement stacked over months and years.

Some days feel great.
Some days feel heavy.
Some days you miss lifts you know you can hit.

But consistency means you keep coming back anyway.

That’s what builds strong lifters.
Not perfect programs.
Not perfect weeks.
Not waiting until you “feel ready.”

Just commitment to the process.

At Dungeon Barbell Club, we’re not chasing quick fixes.
We’re building resilient athletes who keep showing up, even when progress feels slow.

Because strength isn’t built in one big moment.

It’s built in the hundreds of ordinary sessions nobody sees.

You don’t need to be elite to step onto the platform.
You just need to be willing to have a go.

Saturday May 9th… Dungeon Barbell Club is hosting our next Club Round Open Platform.

And the best part?
You do not need to be a QWA member to enter.

If you’ve been training in the gym…
working on your lifts…
or just want something to aim at… this is your chance.

A fun, low-pressure day.
Good people.
Friendly competition.
An atmosphere that pushes you to be better.

There’s something different about lifting when it counts.
When the bar is loaded…
the room goes quiet…
and it’s your turn.

We start with our teens, then females, then males.

Whether you want to compete, support, or just experience it… come be part of the day.

May 9th.

Rest.
Refocus.
Then get back to work.

This isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about staying in it long enough to actually improve.

At Dungeon Barbell Club
we don’t chase intensity every day.
We build strength over time.
