Cairns Community Kindy

It was a pleasure to visit C&K Cairns Community Kindy with Di Farmer MP the Shadow Minister for Education and the Early Years, and meet with the dedicated educators who are helping give local children the very best start in life.

Early childhood education plays a vital role in a child’s development, building confidence, curiosity, social skills and a lifelong love of learning. We had a valuable discussion about the importance of supporting families, investing in quality early learning, and ensuring our educators have the resources they need to help children thrive.

The theme for National Child Protection Week is - Every Conversation Matters: Shifting Conversation to Action.

Protecting children is a shared responsibility. It means genuinely listening, noticing what children communicate through their words, play and behaviour, and responding in ways that help them feel safe, heard and respected—at kindy, at home and throughout the wider community.
Every conversation is an opportunity to show children that their voice matters. It is what we do next that makes the difference 💗

t all started with a trip to the museum…
One of our parents discovered a little piece of our Kindy’s history — during the 1970s, our Kindy entered the Cairns Festival Grand Parade and came away with prizes on two separate occasions!
That discovery sparked an idea amongst our families… perhaps it was time for Kindy to join the parade again.
More than 50 years later, we did. 💛
There was really only one theme we could choose — the 70s — a little tribute to the children, families and educators who came before us.
Cardboard became colourful Kombi vans as the children painted, drew and added their own touches. Families joined in, costumes came together and our little piece of the 70s was ready to roll. 🌼✌️🚐

A night of dancing, pizza, friends and families — and plenty of very enthusiastic disco moves!
A huge thank you to Domino’s Pizza Manunda, Manoora for so generously donating the pizzas for our night. We really appreciate it. 💛

What a fun afternoon at our Kindy Social last term.

There were painted faces, shared food, magic tricks, big laughs and lots of happy children. Flip Ripley’s magic show had everyone giggling, and it was lovely to see families spending time together in our kindy space.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the afternoon feel so relaxed and joyful.

At the end of last term our kindergarten was filled with families generously giving their time, energy and care to help nurture the environment our children enjoy each day. From weeding gardens and pruning, to assembling one of our new garden beds, working on our mural, completing a much-needed clean-up and rubbish run, every contribution helped shape our space with love.
Our outdoor environment is more than just a place to play. It is a place where children investigate, imagine, create, connect and develop a sense of belonging. Caring for it together reflects the values we hope to nurture in our children—respect, collaboration, responsibility and community.
To every parent, grandparent and family member who rolled up their sleeves and joined us, thank you. Your generosity and willingness to contribute are part of what makes our kindergarten such a special place. The children may not see every task that was completed, but they will experience the care behind it every time they explore, play and learn in these spaces.
We are incredibly grateful to be part of a community that values working together to create the very best environment for our children. 💚

Our Sea of Hearts has come to life. ❤️🖤💛💙🤍💚

Over the past few weeks, children and families have created hearts and shared what reconciliation means to them. Through conversations, artwork, storytelling and reflection, we explored the importance of respect, connection, understanding and walking together.

Each heart represents a unique voice, hope, promise or reflection. Together, they form a beautiful Sea of Hearts, symbolising our commitment to honouring First Nations peoples, cultures and histories, building strong relationships, and creating a future where everyone belongs.

Thank you to all our families for contributing to this meaningful project. Seeing each heart come together reminds us that reconciliation is built collectively through listening, learning, caring and taking action, one step at a time.
