‼️URGENT POST‼️‼️
The Importance of Making a Submission to GFAA
It is important that recreational fishers make a submission to GFAA regarding proposed increases to marine parks and green zones across Australia, particularly as governments work towards the federal target of protecting 30% of our waters.
This includes areas such as the Great Barrier Reef and the Gulf of Carpentaria, where there are already marine parks and significant areas of protection, including two marine parks in the northern Gulf. Any further expansion needs to carefully consider the existing level of protection and the impacts on recreational fishing communities.
Conservation of our marine environment is important, but it must be balanced with responsible recreational fishing. Recreational fishers are passionate about healthy fish stocks and sustainable waterways, and their knowledge and interests deserve to be part of the decision-making process.
Making a submission is an important opportunity to ensure the voice of recreational fishers is heard and that future marine park decisions are based on sound science, practical outcomes and a fair balance between conservation and continued access to sustainable recreational fishing.
Closes 30th September!

AUSTRALIAN MARINE PARKS REVIEW
The Australian Government has committed to reviewing management plans for Australia’s marine park networks. The government has also committed to expanding the area of Australian waters classified as “Highly Protected” to at least 30% by 2030. Meeting that target will require at least a further 523,980 km² of Australian waters to be declared no-fishing areas. These additional no-fishing areas and rezoning of currently accessible areas mustn't include your favourite fishing spots.
GFAA in conjunction with ARFF is campaigning to put fishing values on the record in the Commonwealth Marine Park Network review.
Have your say.

🎣 RIBBONS BASH – POSTPONED 🎣
Unfortunately, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Ribbons Bash for the time being.
Our vision was to bring the Cairns fishing community together for a fun weekend of Land or Sea competition, good times and plenty of fishing. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the right time. We’re incredibly disappointed, but we’re hopeful we can bring the Ribbons Bash back bigger and better
A massive thank you to Yorkeys K**b Boat Club and Cairns Tackle World for helping us bring this event together. We couldn’t have done it without your support!
And to Cairns SIM Trans we simply can’t thank you enough for your incredible generosity and support towards this tournament. It truly means so much to us, and we are incredibly grateful. ❤

💜 OUR WHY — THE RIBBONS BASH 💙🎣
Ribbons has always been about the ladies at the end of the game fishing season, we get together for one day, grab the rods and go fishing!
Why couldn’t we create a day where we bring the whole Cairns fishing community together? Men, women, couples, families, kids, mates, fishing clubs, boat crews — everyone who loves to fish.
That’s how the Ribbons Bash was created . We wanted to create a fun, relaxed tournament where you don’t have to be part of a particular club, have the biggest boat or be a seasoned tournament angler. You can fish land or sea, bring the family, fish with your mates, take Mum or Dad fishing, or simply come along and have a crack.
For us, it’s about bringing people together, supporting the Cairns fishing community and creating another event that everyone can enjoy. We genuinely hope this becomes something we can grow year after year and make a highlight on the local fishing calendar. 💜💙
If you’ve been thinking about fishing the Ribbons Bash — THIS IS YOUR SIGN! 🎣
Get your registrations in, get the crew together and come be part of our very first Ribbons Bash.
