Our thoughts are with Tom's family. The world is a worse place for losing such a gentleman and knowledgeable horseman.

RIP

The WA harness racing community is paying tribute to a legend of the South West code, Tom Marsden, after his passing aged 86 in Busselton on April 11.

Based in Cowaramup, Tom won many races on both metropolitan and country tracks both as a driver (355) and a trainer (154). One of his stable’s biggest stars was Group 1 winner Tuxedo Tour and he also won a string of major races in the sulky with gun pacers such as Golding Aussie and Hinkleman for his well known father, trainer John Marsden.

Tom’s daughter Karen was also a part of Australia’s Hockeyroos team that won the gold medal at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996.

The Busselton Trotting Club runs the Marsden Family Memorial annually and Tom’s life will be celebrated at the Bantry Chapel in Busselton this Thursday.
