HOOKIN2HOCKEY CARNIVAL 2026 — WHAT A DAY!

What a fabulous Sunday at Busselton Hockey Stadium as HockeyWA hosted the 2026 Fuel to Go & Play Hookin2Hockey Carnival, with the one and only Keith Old (Oldie) from HockeyWA running the show!

With 30 teams travelling from all over the South West to Busselton to play hockey, the stadium was absolutely buzzing!

The day started bright and sunny before turning a little overcast… but the best part? NO RAIN THIS YEAR!

From 7:40am, the stadium came alive as teams arrived, gazebos went up, decorations came out, faces were covered in zinc, hair was sprayed and some seriously impressive dress-up outfits appeared!
The vibe was there from the get-go!

9:00am — LET THE HOCKEY BEGIN!
The turf was split in half, with two games running at once, while the fields in front of the stadium were jam-packed with even more hockey action.

Then, before we knew it, it was 10:05am and skill session time!

With Keith Old setting up the drill, the Wests SWL crew took the Year 3–6 kids on one side, while Busselton Stingers SWL Women, Collie representatives and Oldie took the Year 1–2 crew.
And the smiles were HUGE!
All you could hear was laughter, chatter, encouragement and the unmistakable sound of hockey sticks smashing hockey balls around!

LUNCH TIME!
We absolutely cannot thank our wonderful canteen volunteers enough! Even when the lines were long and things got a little hectic, you were all cool as cucumbers!
A massive thank you to:
Kylie Callow, Peta Avery, Robyn McNeil, Eddie Watson & Mel Harding for holding down the fort in the canteen. Another huge thank you to the Pointon family for taking care of the sausage sizzle upstairs on the patio — those sausages were cooked to PERFECTION!

A big thank you to Healthway for supplying fruit for everyone to enjoy and helping keep our little hockey stars energised throughout the day!

Then it was back to it…
Hockey.
More hockey.
And even MORE hockey!

Suddenly, it was 1:50pm, the final games had finished, and everyone headed onto the turf for one big group photo before the day was officially done and dusted!

To every single volunteer who helped set up, pack down, run the canteen, cook the BBQ, organise games, help behind the scenes and make the day happen — we appreciate you! There is so much work that happens behind the scenes that people don’t always see, and without our incredible community of volunteers, carnivals and events like this simply couldn’t happen.

A huge thank you to Keith Old and HockeyWA, all the organisers, volunteers and everyone who played a part in making the day such a success. And of course, THANK YOU to all the visiting teams for travelling to our beautiful Busselton Hockey Stadium, being fantastic sports and spending your Sunday with us.

We hope you all had an absolute ball and made it home safely!

We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year…

🏑 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TOMORROW! 🏑

Hi everyone!

It’s Gold Sticks Carnival tomorrow for our little hockey stars, and Robyn is looking for a few volunteers to help out and show our support!

We’re looking for:

Canteen
• 1 person — 10am–12pm
• 1 person — 12pm–2pm

BBQ
• 1 person to help the Pointons — 11am–1pm

Turf Skills Activities
Keith Old from Hockey WA is also looking for a couple of adults to help with some skill-based activities on the turf from 10am–10:45am.

If you can spare an hour or two, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Let’s get behind our juniors and show them what a great hockey community we have!
