The second day of Sail Port Stephens saw the fleets staying inshore once more, contending with a westerly breeze. Course 7a and 7b was selected, which featured an upwind start against the tide. Jazz Bar was obstructed at the start and forced to restart, which turned out to be beneficial as the left side of the course near the southern shore proved favorable for navigating upwind, utilizing lifts and breaks while staying out of the tide's main force. Division 3 boats closed the gap with Division 2 boats, with some larger Division 2 cruiser racers finding the light air challenging. All yachts reported high activity on their depth sounders. Regrettably, Another Fiasco beached abeam of Soldiers Point for a period, though crew members assured that the pause would be short-lived. Boondelbah Island proved tricky to navigate around. After rounding the mark, the spinnaker run was remarkably short, lasting about 300 meters, before yachts dropped their spinnakers and tacked upwind. The Corlette Mark was the next waypoint, with getting to the breeze first being the key tactic. It was a day that demanded strategic thinking.

** Sail Port Stephens Day 1 Recap**

Day 1 we saw a forecast of 8-18 knots from the west. The course was the pub to pub race. It saw the 120 strong fleet race, start at Nelson Bay, with a spinnaker start, to Shoal Bay, then play the lifts and breaks up the main channel to the Bannisters Mark, another short kite run to the channel banks mark to then proceed around Boondaba Island, where we ghosted around it, to then reach to middle bank mark before a right kite run to the finish line. It is really great to see so many port hacking boats up here.
