After the unbelievably ridiculous decision by Racing Queensland in deciding to backflip on a perfectly good 2 turn track (after telling members & participants that they were committed to the 2 turn track) into a Straight Track that was unanimously opposed by the Club’s membership I can understand everyone’s frustration and anger.

At the recent forum in Bundaberg RQ weren’t prepared to listen to members views and the entire afternoon was another waste of participants time despite excellent reasons for a 2 turn track were put forward.

RQ are not transparent.
RQ are not honest.
RQ totally ignored participants views.
This is the most ridiculous decision in my 48 years in Greyhound Racing.

I had a mandate to commit to the Members wishes for a new 2 turn track & it would be hypocritical of me to stay on and work towards a Straight Track that no participant wants.

I have decided to resign as Club President effectively immediately.

Vice President Allan Watts will be the interim President.

Congratulations GRV on building a track that participants want.

GRNSW understands what participants in regional areas require.

Yet Bundaberg can’t have a circle track that EVERY participant in Queensland wants and needs.
To make it more confusing is the fact that RQ are using an old Drake Report from NSW to justify their decision.

They neglect to mention that the NSW government don’t recognise that all future tracks be straight.
That’s why they built Taree….Lithgow & Orange as 2 turn circle tracks.

How do you get through to RQ?
What does their term ‘fit for purpose’ mean?

Opening Date Set for Lithgow

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) is delighted to announce that racing will commence at the newly-upgraded racetrack at Lithgow in November.

The club will host its first race meeting at the multi-million dollar venue as a twilight race card on November 2.

“You are always a little hesitant to put a finish date on track works and track upgrades and set an official opening date as mother nature so frequently intervenes, but we are confident that the Lithgow track will be ready to go,” GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin said.

“The Lithgow track is progressing as scheduled with the majority of track works completed. The patron amenities, buildings and grandstand will be completed during August.

“The installation of the track lightning and the judge’s tower will also be completed and in place by August, and we have been informed that all works will be completed by the end of September.

“We will then conduct trials during October and be ready for our long-awaited, first race meeting at Lithgow on Monday, November 2.”

The Minister for Gaming and Racing the Hon. David Harris announced the upgrade in December last year and it is hopeful he will be able to officially open the track.

Work commenced in January and since then there has been a complete rebuild of the racetrack undertaken including the installation of a new rail system, with a SafeChase rail and lure, the kennel block and public amenities have been refurbished. Broadcast-standard lighting averaging 900 lux is being installed, and the tower, which will be used by the judge, stewards and for broadcasters – similar to the modular design in place at Taree – will be also installed.

The track has also been widened and now has radii of 52.7 metres and a new 620m start.

“The maintenance shed has been demolished and will be rebuilt and we are doing enhancement work on the main gate entrance to the facility to provide a more welcoming experience for patrons,” Mr Griffin said.

“The imminent opening of the Lithgow facility is not only wonderful news for participants on the other side of the Blue Mountains and in the Central West who have been without a local track since Bathurst closed in November 2022, but this is great news for all participants offering a new safe, state of the art facility which our industry can be proud of.”

The Forum hosted by RQ at Brothers Club in Bundaberg took place today. The committee extends its gratitude to all attendees, particularly those who traveled from the South East and Rockhampton. Their support during these challenging times is genuinely appreciated.
Regrettably, RQ's approach was perceived as unilateral, with the organization presenting data and statistics without providing tangible evidence for validation. Despite compelling arguments from participants regarding the suitability of a 2 turn track at Bundaberg, RQ stood firm in their decision, citing greyhound welfare concerns. The meeting's one-way nature left many wondering about the efficacy of sharing their perspectives.

Excellent reasons were presented in favor of the 2-turn track, but these seemingly fell on deaf ears. The outcome is disappointing for the Club, with RQ suggesting a possible 12-month timeline for a straight track.

Frankly, it's challenging to find support for this decision among Queensland participants.

We are all devastated.

I understand the importance of the Bundaberg greyhound track redevelopment project to the Bundaberg Greyhound Racing Club and the greyhound racing industry.

I have worked with the team to schedule an industry forum in Bundaberg at 1.30pm on Monday, 22 June 2026.

Good Afternoon

We have emailed RQ and asked for them to set a time & date to come to the Club and explain to Members what has happened……& what the future looks like going forward.

It’s been a week now and still no response.

We have also emailed the Acting Racing Minister Andrew Powell and are still waiting for a response.

It’s frustrating and I’m sure everyone has questions to ask……

Bundaberg Straight Track Backflip A 'Betrayal' - Greyhound Recorder BUNDABERG GRC has been left feeling “betrayed” by Racing Queensland after being told its two-turn racetrack would now be a straight track.

It is with great regret that I inform you that long time Club stalwart and champion conditioner PAUL BURGESS has succumbed to cancer today after a long battle.

Paul always had good dogs and had the knack of being able to improve dogs that came into his kennels. He is a huge loss for the entire industry. We pass on our condolences to his family and our thoughts are with them in this sad time.

RIP Paul.

Good evening members and greyhound supporters.

Following 12 months of efforts towards track refurbishment at Bundaberg, I am disappointed to report that Acting CEO Lachlan Murray and new Board Chairman Matt McGrath have reneged on their commitments. They failed to engage with us or consider our perspectives.
They were purely there to tell us that the highly anticipated 2 turn track was not happening.
I asked if anything we said today would change their minds and Mr Murray said no.
So basically we are getting a straight track that the village idiot knows won’t cater for participants needs.

The entire greyhound community in Queensland are being affected by this short sighted decision and I don’t know any other sport that is run by people who know absolutely nothing about it.
They are listening to the wrong people and making decisions that aren’t in the best interests of participants.

As a committee we are absolutely devastated with this late change by the RQ hierarchy.

I personally have no confidence in Lachlan Murray…..David Brick or Alex Kitching.

They have let the entire Queensland industry down. I doubt they could run a bath.

So tell me people……will you be coming up to race at Bundaberg straight track ??
