🤍 SHOULDERS 🤍 SHOULDERS 🩶 SHOULDERS 🖤

Why do we need to strengthen them? Why do we need better mobility? WHY?

A little anatomy lesson…

Your shoulder blades (scapulars) sit on your rib cage and work closely with your thoracic spine (mid-back). That’s a lot of moving parts that all need to work together!

Now add everything you ask your shoulders to do every day—lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, typing, driving and twisting.

If your shoulders aren’t moving well or aren’t strong enough, something will eventually complain… pain, muscle strains, tendon injuries, bursitis, neck pain, impingement—you name it.

Often, people wonder, “What did I do?”

The answer is often… it’s what you didn’t do.

You haven’t been giving your shoulders the strength and mobility work they need.

We get it… shoulder exercises aren’t always the most exciting! 😅 And they require good technique:
✔️ No shrugging those upper traps (they love to cheat!)
✔️ No twisting through your hips when rotating your upper body.
✔️ Slow, controlled movement is where the magic happens.

So dust off your Theraband, grab your light dumbbells… or even better, come along to class and let us guide you through the exercises.

Your future shoulders (and neck!) will thank you. 🤍

Your feet are some of the hardest-working parts of your body, yet they’re often the most overlooked.

Think about it... they carry you through thousands of steps every single day. Walking, running, standing, exercising, chasing after kids, working long hours... they’re constantly working, often in shoes that don’t support them properly, with very little rest or dedicated care.

Most people spend time strengthening their core, glutes or arms, but rarely think about strengthening the muscles in their feet and calves. The muscles, tendons and fascia throughout your feet and lower legs work together to provide support, absorb impact and create efficient movement. When they’re strong, mobile and functioning well, your whole body benefits.

That’s why foot health is so important.
In Pilates, we don’t just focus on the feet, we strengthen everything that supports them. Exercises like calf raises, toe scrunches and balance work help build stronger feet and ankles while improving the strength and endurance of the calf muscles.

We also use equipment like the Oov, BOSU and Makarlu to challenge balance, stability and foot control. These exercises wake up the small stabilising muscles that are often neglected in everyday life and help improve proprioception, your body’s awareness of where it is in space.

Healthy fascia also plays a huge role. The fascia running through your feet connects all the way up the back of your body, so when the feet become stiff or weak, it can affect your ankles, knees, hips and even your posture.

Looking after your feet isn’t just about preventing pain, it’s about moving better, balancing better and building a stronger foundation for everything you do.

Your feet support you every day.

Maybe it’s time to return the favour.

OTHER PIECES OF PILATES.
Most of us have heard or tried the Reformer, as this has become one of the most popular Pilates pieces in Australia over the last 10 years.

However, there are many other pieces that your body will also fall in love with to help facilitate movement and take your movement/mobility/increase strength to the next level.

Let us introduce you to them…

This piece is the Cadillac (some call it the trapeze because of the hanging piece you see here in the picture. It can look daunting, but it would be our personal favourite due to its versatility 🖤

The Cadiallac

Rotation of the spine (using the push thru bar)

This piece of equipment can work your entire body.
Legs, arms, Abs and all the little muscles inbetween. Nothing quite like it.

The Cadillac

Advanced - Spinal Extension using the Fuzzy Straps

The Cadillac.

Hip Rolls (or Extended leg Bridging)

The Cadillac

Prone - Chest extension aka “Swan” using the push thru bar here in this pic.

The Chair.

A smaller piece of equipment so people love these for home use also. Think reformer only you can sit on it for footwork (aka chair)

Also offering so much versatility with kneeling & standing (balance options)

It’s also amazing for clients who can’t lie down comfortably for long periods like on the reformer
Eg vertigo (vestibular conditions), prenatal etc

The pedal works on an Arch.

Movement isn’t just up/down or forward/back, but rather arching so we are able to access other smaller muscles groups that can be a little inactive

The Barrels.

This one in particular is the Ladder Barrel (a larger style).

We use these to help you find your spinal movement and increase spinal mobility but rolling into/over it.

But showing the versatility (above) it also offer many more styles of movement to help you in your everyday life eg surfing (prone position) etc

The Ladder Barrel

Spinal extension in its finest form where every Vertebrae feels the barrel to bring about the spine support

The ladder barrel

Hamstring Stretches

It offer incredible stretching also.

Demonstrating continued hip stretches (hip flexors above)

Spine Corrector (aka smaller barrel)

Again amazing fo

Pilates isn’t just for women.

In fact, it’s the perfect complement to the gym, running, sport and other forms of training.

Strength is important. But so are mobility, control, balance, core strength and the ability to move well.

Pilates helps build the foundations that support everything else you do, improving movement quality, addressing imbalances and helping your body perform at its best.

Our male clients know that Pilates isn’t about taking away from strength. It’s about adding to it.

Better movement. More control. Greater mobility. Stronger foundations.

Pilates is for every body and men, you’re absolutely welcome here.
