Our 2026 Awards Night brought together 140+ athletes, families, coaches and supporters at McDonald Jones Stadium to mark another incredible year of achievement.

🛹 NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN! 🛹

The HAS Skateboarding Program provides a high-performance pathway for talented young skateboarders.

Athletes will develop their technical skills, strength & conditioning, performance knowledge and personal growth, with targeted training and preparation for high-performance trials.

The program also includes education in nutrition, sports psychology and injury management, plus opportunities to represent HAS at events, inter-academy sessions and camps.

📋 PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
Athletes must:
Be turning 10 – 17 (2010-2018) in 2027
Currently reside within the Hunter Region
Demonstrate a dedication to improving their performance

📅 PROGRAM DELIVERY PERIOD
October 2026 – December 2026

🌟UAA INDIGENOUS TALENT ID DAY WRAP-UP🌟

The Upper Hunter’s next generation of emerging sporting talent took centre stage at Muswellbrook Indoor Sports Centre for the Indigenous Talent Identification Day, with over 70 students in attendance. They came together for a full day of testing, learning, and opportunity.

From Netball to Basketball and more, students had the chance to test their abilities, try new sports, and uncover strengths they may not have known they had.

The day highlighted not just performance but potential, opening pathways for future development and high-performance opportunities for Indigenous youth across the region.

Huge thanks to UAA Group and Santos Ltd d for making this day possible! 🙌

A huge congratulations to former Hunter Academy of Sport athletes Brij Ingrey and Ella Scaysbrook on their recent achievements in golf! 👏

Brij Ingrey claimed the NSW Associate Championship, winning a thrilling playoff to secure the title! A huge accomplishment, Brij!

Ella Scaysbrook has continued to make her mark on the international stage, competing at the US Women’s Amateur and progressing through to the Round of 16. Another impressive milestone in Ella’s golfing journey!

We’re incredibly proud to see our former athletes continuing to achieve at the highest level. Congratulations, Brij and Ella!

Heading to an eligible state, national or international sporting championship?
Financial assistance is available through the Australian Sports Commission’s:

🏅 Local Sporting Champions
Grants of $500 to $750 for eligible competitors, coaches and officials aged 13 to 18.

♿ Local Para Champions
Grants of $750 to $1,000 for eligible participants, coaches, officials and support roles aged 13 to 24.
Eligibility and minimum ages vary depending on the level of competition.

⏰ Applications close 31 August 2026.

Six new legends have joined the Hunter Region Sporting Hall of Fame!

The 34th annual induction ceremony was held last night at McDonald Jones Stadium, celebrating athletes who've carried the Hunter's name onto the national and international stage.
