Delayed drop footwork into verbal reactions ✅

Everybody talks about “reacting” or “reading” the defence but not enough talk about what precedes that. 🔑

Players need to establish movement patterns (footwork & techniques) that can first shift defenders creating angles/advantages. 🎒

Once players have mastered the finer details with their footwork, ball manipulation, posture & angles, rhythm & timing, and change of pace, then comes the “reads” or “reactions” that follow them. 🏀

Skill precedes reads.
Skill precedes freedom.

Become more skilled, then you will be in a position to react according to how the defence plays you. Thats the order. 💯

Be intentional with your footwork. Mastering the finer details. Once you are at a level, you can enforce those finer details reacting to a verbal cue like the video above. ✅

Ronin Evans getting ready for a big season at Western Colorado Men’s Basketball 🏀💪🏼🔥

He has been in the gym with me 5 days a week for 9 months straight (other than when I’ve been out of town for coaching). 🎒

Weights, conditioning, film study, mentoring talks, mobility, coaching sessions, diet & nutrition chats…he has a pro mentality (which is missing here in Australia). 💪🏼

I’m looking forward to seeing him crush it next year on and off the court. 🙏🏼

3’s, 2’s, 1’s with Ronin Evans working on his shot fake drop pivot 🎒

Drill variations:

1. Go for 1 minute alternating 3, midrange, and paint finish. Switch with partner or rotate if you have a group of 3. Go 4 times through.

2. Hot hand concept—go through sequence 3 times for a total of 9 shots. On your 10th catch and shoot 3pt shot, if you make it keep shooting catch & shoot 3 until you miss.

3. Team drill. Have a passing and shooting line. Each player takes one shot and rotates line. You shoot your catch and shoot 3, then midrange, and then paint finish. Repeat for 4-5 spots.

Choose what footwork you want to work on and refine your technique while going game speed for cardio. There is no reads/reactions so players can focus on what techniques/footworks suit their game and get quality reps. Don’t chop & change (freestyle). Choose something and focus on mastering it.
