I keep seeing people in local community groups asking where all the Pilates mat classes went.

​We actually run 6 mat classes a week here, but I get the hesitation. I’ve been to “mat classes” before that didn’t include a single actual Pilates exercise.

​While our usual weekly classes include modern functional work, balance, and fascia release, I’m doing something strictly traditional this weekend.

Before anyone says "not all Reformer classes are like this...." Trust me, I know. But as someone who has been to a lot of classes over the years, it's a lot of them.

And if you are a women in your 40s or 50s living with joint pain, you shouldn't have to tolerate a workout that leaves you feeling worse than when you walked in.

Pilates is about quality movement for all your joints and muscles not just one or two being hammered over and over.

I have a confession: When I first opened the studio, I skipped the Ladder Barrel. 🙈

​When I started out, I skipped it because everyone said it was “just for stretching.”

​But here’s the truth:

1️⃣ It’s NOT just passive stretching. The original repertoire requires serious core strength, control, and spinal articulation.

2️⃣ Even if it were just stretching... it’s the best damn stretch of your life. You literally cannot replicate the support of this barrel curve in a Reformer-only studio.

​My clients are now showing up 10 minutes early just to use it. If you’re skipping the barrel, you’re missing out.
