Kids Heart Pilates offers basic progressive and developmental Pilates exercises for the whole family in the classroom and online. Our mission is to make exercising as accessible as cartoons and as habitual as brushing our teeth. Our kids program promotes and educates healthy lifestyle habits, safe and functional moment patterns, education for kids and educators on safe exercises for children and p

is super busy this term heading out to speak to educators across Queensland.

We do not just run Child Development exercise classes in centres.

We mentor educators on how we see children tracking, what strategies to use between our sessions and how to use movement holistically.

The requests we get can be so different, from weekly mentoring with our classes to full day intensives to educator workshops to Lizzy presenting at the C&K conference coming up!

Get in touch if you want to understand how we use movement holistically.

To most people, climbing is just fun.

To us, it's one of the best developmental activities a child can do.

When a child climbs, they're developing so much more than strength.

💙 Core strength and postural control
💙 Bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together)
💙 Grip strength and shoulder stability
💙 Balance and body awareness
💙 Motor planning and problem-solving
💙 Confidence and resilience
💙 Visual-spatial awareness
💙 Sensory processing and regulation

Every step requires children to think...

"Where does my foot go next?"

"Can I reach that rope?"

"How do I shift my weight safely?"

That's movement teaching the brain.

It's why we don't just ask children to complete exercises—we create opportunities for them to explore, solve problems and build confidence through movement.

Because movement isn't just about getting stronger.

It's about helping children learn, regulate, participate and thrive. ❤️

This is actually one of the most misunderstood parts of paediatric therapy. To many parents, throwing just looks like a game. But it’s one of the richest developmental activities we can use because it challenges so many systems at once.

Here’s why throwing is almost always in our sessions:

🩷 It develops whole-body coordination. Throwing starts from the feet, transfers through the hips and trunk, then into the shoulder, arm and hand. Children learn to sequence movement efficiently rather than just moving one body part at a time.

🩷 It builds core strength and postural control. Before a child can throw well, they need a stable base. The trunk has to stay organised while the arms generate force.

🩷It improves bilateral coordination. One side of the body stabilises while the other moves. This ability underpins skills like writing, dressing, cutting with scissors and many playground activities.

🩷 It develops visual skills. Children must judge distance, track a moving target, time their release and adjust based on where the object lands. These same visual-motor skills support reading, handwriting and classroom learning.

🩷 It strengthens motor planning. Every throw requires the brain to answer: How hard? How high? Which hand? When do I let go? The brain then learns from the result and refines the next attempt.

🩷 It supports sensory processing. Throwing provides proprioceptive input (feedback from muscles and joints), vestibular activation as the body rotates or shifts weight, and tactile feedback from gripping different objects. This helps many children become more organised and regulated.

🩷 It builds attention and executive functioning. Children must focus, inhibit impulsive responses, remember rules, solve problems and adapt their strategy throughout games.

🩷 It develops confidence. Throwing games are easy to grade so children experience success, challenge themselves and develop resilience when they miss.

At Kids Heart Pilates, we don’t use throwing simply to teach children to throw. We use it because throwing is a vehicle for developing the foundations that support learning, participation and confidence across everyday life.

Sydney, you were incredible. 🤍

Every time I run this course I’m reminded that it’s never just about the content.

It’s the conversations between practitioners.
The questions that challenge our thinking.
The ideas that emerge from real clinical experiences.
The support people give each other.
The collaborations that continue long after the weekend is over.

I walk away learning something every single time, and that’s one of my favourite parts.

Next stop: Adelaide.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, registrations close 5 August, and I’d love to see you there.

Come for the paediatric education. Stay for the community, the conversations, and the confidence you’ll build alongside other clinicians.

See you in Adelaide. 💙

BlazePods mapped across the floor. Circuit stations set. Nature walk route planned. Sports carnival equipment out. The sports carnival is the last day of Week 2 and it is something we have been designing for weeks. Individual awards, Super Listener, Movement Champion, Team Player Trophy because every child who comes through our holiday program deserves to be recognised for something specific, not generic.

Our team of Accredited Exercise Physiologists is ready. If you still have not registered and you want to there may still be a spot!

Co-regulation is the process by which an adult's calm nervous system helps regulate a child's dysregulated one. You model the state you want the child to reach. In a Kids Heart Pilates session this is not an add-on, it is built into every transition, every instruction, every moment of redirection.

Our practitioners are trained to move slowly when a child escalates. To lower their voice, not raise it. To name what they are seeing without judgment. To offer the child a physical reset - a wall push, a heavy carry, a jump sequence before attempting verbal engagement. This is why our sessions work for children who have struggled in other environments.

We help complex kids, groups in early learning centres and those in between.

To the parent who is carrying a pile of reports and still doesn't have an answer. We see you. We see the comparing when you know you shouldn't. The sitting in the car outside school bracing for the afternoon. We see the GPs who told you wait and see.

The family members who said you were overthinking it. The waiting lists. The conflicting advice. We see the love underneath all of it. The extraordinary, exhausting, relentless love that is behind every appointment you make and every question you ask.

You are not overthinking it. You are not failing. You just need someone who can help you see what you are looking at. That is exactly what we do.

If something has been feeling off but you cannot quite name it, that is exactly where we begin. No referral needed. No diagnosis required. Just reach out.

Yes, Pilates for three-year-olds is a thing. And yes, it actually works. Here are six reasons why.

1. Three-year-olds are in the middle of their most critical gross motor development window.

2. Group movement at this age builds social skills as fast as it builds physical ones.

3. Regulation - the ability to manage big feelings and transitions is trainable through structured movement.

4. Early identification: we see things in movement that flag developmental concerns before they show up at home.

5. Children who have strong movement foundations at three start school more ready - socially, physically, academically.

6. It is genuinely fun and fun is the most powerful learning state there is.

Term 3 spots are opening, we welcome 3 yr olds to our holiday program junior group.
