A famous race of Man vs. Machine, Race the Rattler is an 18.5km foot race in the heart of Gympie itself.
14 years since this famous race of 'Man against Machine’ started and this marvellous race is continuing to grow on. 2012 is expected to be the biggest of all years since the event was first established in 1998 with the hope of some big names appearing at this years gruelling 18.5km run, against the 'Valley Rattler' Steam Train itself. This magnificent run is not only for the runners themselves but
also the public and spectators, as you are the most important people in getting these runners all the way to the finish line! This years fields are looking hot already with just under 6 months to go until the race kicks off! The definite return of the back to back winners 3 years in a row “The Losers” is watched closely by the Individual winner 3 years running, Steven Page. Page’s goal of beating the rattler may be a struggle, with his best over this course standing at 1.05.49, but with some proper competition he could push himself right through to the win. Clare Geraghty is another to return to this years ‘Race the Rattler’ boasting victories in the Noosa Half Marathon and representing Australia at the Chiba Ekiden relay in Chiba (JPN) in 2010. Geraghty is also a three time winner in the event, and has her sights set on making it 4. Most of all we wish to see the Valley Rattler out there once again this year, fitter and faster than ever!
