I’ve never really shared this part of my story in this much detail before…

Looking back at my photos from my early 20s is such a strange feeling.

I can see the places I went, the things I did, the people I met and the life I was chasing.

And yet, I remember feeling like I was watching it all from the outside.

I was physically there, but mentally I was somewhere else entirely.

For a long time, I felt sad about those years. I told myself I had wasted them

But, I was unwell.

I wasn’t choosing to miss out on my own life. I was trying to navigate thoughts, fears and feelings that were taking up so much space in my mind.

Im sharing this because I think we sometimes have a very narrow idea of what mental illness looks like.

We imagine someone who has completely stopped functioning.

But sometimes it looks like the person who still goes to work, still travels, still laughs, still shows up.

So if you look back at a chapter in your life and wonder why you weren’t happier, why you weren’t more present, or why you can’t remember it like you think you should, be kinder to yourself.

Maybe, you weren’t missing out. You were simply doing your best to get through something nobody else could see. 💓💗
