We finished off a big week of boxing today at the largest Golden Gloves event ever held in Australia. It was great to see so many boxers from all over Australia and internationally, including a strong team from Japan. 6 of our boxers never competed due to either illness or not making weight. We ended up with 15 boxers competing, 7 of them having their very first boxing match. This event was a tough way to make a debut but they all tried very hard and learnt so much from the experience. Of the new boxers, Mohammed Abdulle won 2 fights but then lost in the semi-final and Sultan also won two fights but lost in the final today, picking up the silver. This was a huge effort - well done Sultan. All up, we had 27 fights for 14 wins and 13 losses, collecting 2 gold and 4 silvers. A massive congratulations to Humraaz and Abdullah who fought brilliantly to become Golden Gloves champions.

There's a busy finish to the year ahead with a number of events coming up. We also have Sulz fighting in his third pro fight on the Gold Coast in late September.

A big thank you to all of the supporters who came to cheer on our boys and a massive thank you to Matt Partridge, who helped prepare the team, assisted me in the corner (as well as cornered some boxers on his own when we had two boxers competing in different rings at the same time). He also kept the gym open whilst I cornered the team. It's been a big week, so relax and enjoy the weekend.

You should all hold your head high as it takes a lot of courage to climb through the ropes. Everything else is a bonus - and everything is fixable. Am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday - the journey continues!

The gym will be open from 5pm to 8pm (as normal) from today. Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding over the last few days.

Today proved to be a challenging day. Elijah missed making weight and Mustafa was up sick all night and couldn't weigh in. Still, the boys performed well. We had a number of very close fights - but only got one of the decisions! Abraham and Mohamed Hassan fought exceptionally well but didn't get the nod - well done guys. You both won two fights over the last two days and missed out today in the semis in the closest of decisions. That's still an awesome tournament with 3 more valuable fights under your belts. Mohamed Abdulle also fought very well in his semi-final, his third fight of the tournament but didn't get the win today. This tournament was his first time in the ring - he has real talent and will go a long way. Israel was doing so well in his very first boxing fight but fitness cost him the win - a huge effort all the same. Sultan scored a win in a very tough semi-final bout, his second win of the tournament - his final is on tomorrow. Sultan has done so well, also in his first boxing event. Gabriel was our last fight of the day - and he fought his heart out. It was his third fight, having won both his previous fights over the last two days. It was one of those fights that could have gone either way but he didn't get the decision.

Whilst the results may have not been what we hoped for today, the performances were extremely good, so they're all winners, as are all of the nearly 900 boxers taking part this week. Tomorrow, we have three bouts on, all in Session 2. There's Sultan's final, and Preston and Kayrdoe fighting in semi-finals.

The official draw just came out - see below. Weigh-in and doctor is once again from 6.30am to 8.30am and the same session times apply. All our boxers should be in Session 2, which starts at 2pm. Kayrdoe (red) is on Ring A, Preston (blue) is also on Ring A and Sultan (red) is on Ring B. Indicative bout times as follows: Kayrdoe - 2.09pm, Preston - 2.42pm, Sultan 2.52pm. Please be there an hour before these times.

Another huge effort from the team tonight, with wins by Mohamed Abdulle (walkover), Abdullah (fought brilliantly to win his final tonight and is now a Golden Gloves Champion) and Gabriel. Silver medals to Ali and Mohsin, losing their finals tonight- well done all the same guys.

I'm still waiting for tomorrow's draw but the following boxers need to weigh in tomorrow:

Mohamed Hassan
Abraham
Mohamed Abdulle (blue) Ring C - 1.10 pm SF
Elijah - out, didn't make weight
Israel - (red) Ring C - 3.40 pm QF
Mustafa - out, sick
Sultan (blue) Ring A - 6.30pm SF
Gabriel (red) Ring B - 7.06pm Final

I'll put up further information as it comes to hand. I have just added the draw sheets below for tomorrow.

Our team have had two more great sessions. Unfortunately Mohammed Salman and Ethan didn't make weight and Richard had to withdraw due to illness. In the first session Abraham and Mohamed Hassan both had good wins. Cory lost against a rangy southpaw but he tried hard and gained valuable experience. In the second session, Humraaz won his final by second round stoppage and Sultan repeated the dose, also winning by stoppage. One more session to end day two.

A good finish to the first day of boxing. Gabriel started Session 3 with a convincing win. Unfortunately, Alec weighed in but the results of a scan meant he had to go to hospital urgently this evening, so he was a late withdrawal. We wish him a speedy recovery. Caleb was the last fight of the night and whilst he lost, he performed well for his first fight and will have learnt a lot from the experience. 6 from 7 wins was a good start to the event. Tomorrow is a huge day for us, with 14 boxers competing. Weigh-in and doctor is once again 6.30am to 8.30 am and the sessions start times are the same as today, being 10.30am, 2 pm and 5.30pm. Indicative fight times are as follows, subject to pull-outs and stoppages. I have highlighted our boxers in green on the images attached. Again, please ensure you are there at least an hour before these times. Please text me after you weigh in to confirm you made weight.

We had another great result in Session 2, with all 3 of our boxers (Abdullah, Charlie and Mohamed Abdulle) scoring impressive wins. Abdullah stopped his opponent in the second round. We have 3 more boxers on tonight, 2 having their first fight.

The Golden Gloves is nearly here, with bouts starting on Tuesday morning. The largest Golden Gloves ever held in Australia will be held at Nissan Arena (590 Mains Rd, Nathan), with over 600 bouts from Tuesday 18 August until Saturday 22 August. Details as follows:

Weigh-in 6.30am to 8.30am (will advise if this changes on any days)
Doctor: 6.30am to 8.30am
Session Start Times: 10.30 am, 2pm, 5.30 pm

I have attached the draw for Tuesday and highlighted our boxers names in light green. I will endeavour to keep this page updated during the event.

Indicative bout times on Tuesday for our boxers are as follows, although this could change. I advise boxers to be there an hour before these indicative bout times, even more so if your bout is later in the session, as there can be more pull-outs and stoppages, so the times are less accurate the later in the session that your bout is on.

Tuesday - Indicative Bout Times
Abraham (red) - Ring B - 11.12 am
Mohamed Hassan (red) - Ring B - 11.39 am

Charlie (blue) - Ring B - 3.06 pm
Abdullah (red) - Ring C - 2.55 pm
Mohamed Abdulle (blue) - Ring A - 3.54 pm

Gabriel (blue) - Ring B - 5.30 pm
Alec (blue) - Ring A - 8.09 pm
Caleb (blue) - Ring C - 8.12 pm

The days that our other boxers will have their first fight are as follows (details will be posted each night):
Wednesday
Corey, Richard, Mohamed Salman, Humraaz, Ethan, Sultan, Ali, Mohsin

Thursday
Elijah, Israel, Mustafa

Friday
Kayrdoe, Preston

We will do our best to keep the gym open every day this week but there may be some disruption to opening hours from Tuesday to Friday, so please keep your eye on this page.

Looking forward to a great week.
