๐ฃ YOU PICK. WE MAKE.
Weโre choosing the colours for the new SeriolaPro deep jig range and rather than us deciding, weโre handing it over to you.
There are 14 colour options in the carousel.

BIG fish donโt always need BIG jigs. ๐ฃ๐ฅ
Itโs easy to look at a fish like this and assume you need the biggest jig in the box.
You donโt.
Jig selection is about fishing the conditions โ depth, current, drift and getting the jig down into the strike zone while maintaining contact.
If a lighter jig stays vertical and gives you the action you want, fish it. If the current starts pushing it away from the boat, go heavier.
โ๏ธ Weight first. Action second. Colour third.
Get those three right and let the fish make the final decision. ๐

๐ฃ WHAT MATTERS MORE โ COLOUR OR ACTION? ๐
Itโs hard to ignore a jig this bright! ๐ฉท๐
But when I choose a jig for deep water, colour isnโt my first consideration.
โ๏ธ Can I get the right weight for the conditions?
๐ Will the shape cut through the current?
โ๏ธ What sort of action will it have?
๐ฏ Can I keep it where the fish are?
Get those things right first. Then choose a colour you have confidence in.
This Pomfret certainly didnโt mind the pink and yellow! ๐ฅ๐
Thatโs one of the key messages in Lesson 4 of the SeriolaPro Deep Jigging Academy โ Jig Selection, which is now live.

What do you choose FIRST โ weight, shape or colour? ๐

๐ฃ LESSON 4 IS LIVE โ WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT FIRST WHEN CHOOSING A JIG? ๐
โ๏ธ Weight?
๐ Shape?

This one tackles a subject that creates plenty of debate โ choosing the right jig for the conditions.
After years of fishing jigs in everything from relatively shallow water to 400m+, Iโve become far less interested in finding a โmagicโ jig and far more interested in choosing one that suits whatโs actually happening below the boat.
๐ How much current is running?
๐จ How fast are we drifting?
๐ Can I keep the line reasonably vertical?
โฌ๏ธ Can I get to the bottom efficiently?
๐ฃ Is the jig actually working the way itโs supposed to?
And yesโฆ colour gets a mention too. ๐
The big takeaway?
๐ฅ Donโt choose your jig from a depth chart. Fish the conditions.
Lesson 4 covers jig weight, shape, action and colour, and how I use all four to make decisions on the water.

๐ HAVE YOU EVER CHANGED JIGS AND SUDDENLY SWITCHED THE BITE ON?
๐ฃ THREE DROPS CHANGED THE WHOLE DAY.
Weโd been struggling.
260m of water. Slow bite. Not much happening. ๐ฅฑ
So I changed jigs.
Not because I wanted a different colour โ I wanted a different action.
I dropped an 800g Slobseeker โ a jig with plenty of movement and a completely different action to what Iโd been fishing.
โฌ๏ธ First drop โ SMASHED.
๐ฅ Bar Cod
โฌ๏ธ Second drop โ ๐ฅ๐ฅ Another Bar Cod.
โฌ๏ธ Third drop โ ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ another one!
Three drops. Three fish. ๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ฃ
From donuts ๐ฉ to a full esky ๐ง in the space of three drops.
Same spot.
Same conditions.
Same angler.
Different jig shape. Different action. Different result.
Thatโs why I think jig selection goes a lot deeper than choosing your favourite colour.
Sometimes the fish simply want the jig to move differently.

๐จ WHATโS YOUR GO-TO JIG COLOUR? ๐
Drop it in the comments before you read on! ๐ด๐ข๐ก๐ต๐ฃ
โ ๏ธ STOP LOOKING FOR THE MAGIC JIG COLOUR.
Jig colour matters โ but probably not as much as many anglers think.
๐ฃ Iโve caught the same species on wildly different colours - often on the same drift.
When Iโm choosing a jig, Iโm far more concerned about getting the weight, shape and presentation right for the conditions.
โ๏ธ Is the jig heavy enough to stay vertical?
โฌ๏ธ Am I getting to the bottom efficiently?
๐ Is the jig working properly?
๐ฏ Am I keeping it in the strike zone?
Get those things wrong and Iโm not convinced the worldโs greatest colour is going to save you.
For me, itโs more like:
โ๏ธ WEIGHT
โฌ๏ธ SHAPE
๐ฃ PRESENTATION
๐จ COLOUR
Colour is part of the equation.
๐ฅ It isnโt THE equation.
Nowโฆ back to that first question:
๐ If you could only take ONE jig colour offshore, what are you taking?

Thereโs something pretty addictive about dropping a lump of metal into hundreds of metres of water and having absolutely no idea whatโs going to eat it. ๐ฃ๐
Thatโs the magic of deep jigging.
Big fish. Heavy jigs. Light line. And every drop can produce something completely different.
This is why we keep going back. ๐ค
