Are you doing intermittent fasting or thinking about starting?

Intermittent fasting is where you don't eat for a certain number of hours a day and usually involves missing breakfast.

Another group of people that may not find intermittent fasting suitable are those that are constipated! If you are not going to the toilet for days, then intermittent fasting may not be for you until you have more frequent daily bowel motions.

This is because our body is programmed to pass a bowel motion most often after waking and an urge can usually occur within 20 minutes of eating. But not just eating a piece of toast. Your breakfast needs to be at least 600kcal (so a more substantial breakfast) to get the body going.

That is why if you are constipated and don't pass a bowel motion for days, you may have missed the morning window of opportunity by not having breakfast.

My tip would be if you are quite constipated (and whilst there can be many reasons for this) and are intermittent fasting, then bring back breakfast and see if it helps your bowel motions. It's more important to go to the toilet daily, then to fast!

Constipation!

Do you suffer from this? Constipation can be seen as either not going daily or when you do go passing dry, hard, lumpy poos.

Did you know that your body only has 6 opportunities throughout the day to pass a bowel motion? If you miss one of these windows, or all of these windows, your body won't send signals again until the next day! The body is not meant to go to the toilet in the middle of night! How good is that design!?

That is why it's important to not "resist the urge" and go when your body signals you to go.

So excited to now be able to call myself a Mental Health Aware Yoga Teacher after completing a 60 hour course with Dr Lauren Tober of The Yoga Psychology!!

Another layer to my yoga teaching which gives me further insight and knowledge of mental health awareness with my general yoga classes but also for anyone attending with trauma and my cancer care classes!
