At our school you can learn swordplay using methods straight out of renaissance texts. We teach a style known as La Verdadera Destreza, as well as other Iberian styles. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming place for people of all ages, abilities, genders, cultural, ethnic or religious backgrounds or socio-economic status. Our social media rules and other polices can be found on our website. BSIS has a Covid Safety Plan in place and is open and operating within the rules for community sport.

What a great weekend we had at the Abbey History Festival! We got to talk to the public about HEMA, fence all day, and teach some beginner classes to folk who had never held a sword before. Thanks to everyone who came to see us and shared with us your enthusiasm for everything from history to swords to pop culture and everything in between.
Thanks also to the other HEMA groups attending including Vaguard Swordmanship Academy, Spada di Bolgnese, and Collegium in Armis (North and South) - it was great crossing swords with you, and we'll see you at the Hiker Brewing Co on 17 October for the Cut n' Thrust Campaign.
And thanks to Abbey for having us!

It is nearly time the Abbey History Festival this weekend! Stop by the HEMA encampment for a free taster lesson in the sword style of your choice - over the weekend we will have several different clubs presenting their area of study.
We'll be there with other HEMA groups including Vanguard Swordsmanship Academy, di Bolognese, and Collegium in Armis.

We be wishin' ye a mighty piratey Walk-Like-a-Pirate Day. Arrr, sadly ye missed our Walk-Like-a-Pirate Footwork session, but if you ever fetch up on our shores at least ye can learn how to brandish a sword.

HEMA went to Boonah for the Southern Realm Festival on the weekend and taught the public about what we do. If you missed out, you can catch us at the end of September at the Abbey History Festival. Come see swordplay in action, or try a free taster lesson - we will be HEMA clubs from all around Brisbane, so you are sure to find the one that suits you.

Come and see us this weekend! On Saturday we will be at the Southern Realm Festival in Boonah, and on Sunday (while some of us return to Boonah) we will be at the Backyard Bonanza in Bracken Ridge. So no matter where you are, there is an event for your side of town with a packed weekend of fun for us and the public!

Thank you to everyone involved in our 10th Carranza Cup! We hope a new generation of fencers feel more confident entering the tournament scene after the support the community provided to them in our beginner-friendly event.

The primary change to rules of Carranza Cup this year is the introduction of the Simplified Clean Hit rule.

Any time only one fencer is awarded a scoring action, an additional point will be allocated.
