In 2025, Leon Lay from Neon Boxing Academy was recognised as Coach of the Year.
This award celebrates coaches who build more than skills. It recognises leadership, mentorship, athlete development, and the positive impact a coach can have on both performance and people.
Behind every great athlete is often a coach who believed in them, guided them, and helped them grow.
Leon’s recognition reflects the important role coaches play across the Redlands Coast sporting community.

🥈 AUSTRALIAN SILVER MEDALLIST 🥈
A huge congratulations to William ‘BXR WILL’ Turnbull on claiming the 2026 Australian Under 13 (50–52kg) Silver Medal at the Australian National Championships.
Stepping into the National Final against a quality opponent, William delivered a composed and determined performance. He controlled the centre of the ring for much of the contest, dictated the pace and was involved in some outstanding exchanges throughout all three rounds.
Knowing he needed a big finish, William showed tremendous courage in the final round, lifting the intensity, throwing plenty of punches and leaving absolutely everything in the ring until the final bell.
While he didn’t get the win on the judges scorecards, William has every reason to hold his head high. To reach a National Final and stand on the podium as an Australian Silver Medallist is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the dedication, discipline and resilience he demonstrates every day in the gym.
Congratulations to William on an incredible National Championships campaign, and congratulations to William’s opponent on a great contest. Every bout provides another opportunity to learn, grow and continue building towards even greater things.

Hard Work, Discipline and Sacrifice have all led to this moment.
Today, Coach Neon Leon proudly presented William “BXR WILL” Turnbull and Maddox “MoneyMan” McGregor with their official Qld Team uniforms ahead of their bouts at the 2026 Under 19s Nationals.
Wearing the maroon isn’t just about stepping into the ring for another bout - it’s about representing yourself, your Qld Teammates, your Qld Coaches, your Neon family and your state with pride!
William has secured his place in tomorrow night’s Under 13s (50-52kg) National Finals, where he will compete for his place in the Australian team in Session 2 (from 5pm), Bout 4. Be sure to come down and cheer him on!
Maddox is set to begin his campaign on Saturday in the Under 17s (52-54kg) National Finals after receiving a bye through the prelims. We are awaiting the outcome of the semi finals in his division to determine his bout details.

🇦🇺🥊 BIG WEEK FOR TEAM NEON! 🥊🇦🇺
Tomorrow morning, Oscar Curtis and Maddox “MoneyMan” McGregor will head to Canberra to attend the Boxing Australia Under 19s Development Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
This is an incredible opportunity for both boys to train alongside some of Australia’s most promising Junior and Youth boxers, learn from national-level coaches, and experience the standards and expectations of a high-performance environment.
Meanwhile, Coach Leon is already at the AIS after arriving on Tuesday to undertake Boxing Australia’s Gold Level Coaching Course — the highest coaching accreditation available in Australia. As part of the week, Leon will also be involved in working with athletes attending the Under 19s Development Camp.
From Tuesday through to Sunday 28 June, all three will be immersed in learning, development and high-performance boxing at Australia’s premier sporting institute.
To have two young athletes and a coach representing Neon Boxing Academy at the AIS in the same week is something we’re incredibly proud of. These opportunities are earned through commitment, consistency, hard work and a willingness to keep learning.
For Oscar and Maddox, it’s a chance to learn from some of the best coaches and athletes in the country. For Leon, it’s an opportunity to further develop his coaching knowledge at the highest level while helping shape the future of Australian boxing.
