UQ JUNE NIGHT SINGLES FIXTURES

After being washed out last week, the final night of the UQ Tennis Club's June Singles Fixtures was played today (Tuesday, 7 July).

The results for the Finals were:
Group 1 (UTR 7.78-5.13) - Luke Angus d Stuart Lake 6-2
Group 2 (UTR 5.12-4.97) - Yiwei Zhao d James Nguyen 6-4
Group 3 (UTR 4.96-4.34) - Liam Tincknell d Dien Tran 6-0
Group 4 (UTR 4.26-3.81) - Emma Wallace d David Van Lubeck 6-1
Group 5 (UTR 3.35-1.76) - Samuel Potter d Tremaine Stroebel 6-4

The competition was played over two Tuesday nights. Players were divided into round-robin groups of six by standard (based on verified UTRs). The round-robin matches were followed by play-offs on the final night between the players who finish 1st & 2nd on points, the players who finish 3rd & 4th on points and the players who finish 5th & 6th on points. This gave all players 5 one-set matches in the round-robin plus 1 play-off match (i.e. 6 matches each).

UQ OPEN TENNIS ENTRIES CLOSING

The 2026 University of Queensland Open Tennis Championships will be run over three weekends (18-19 July, 25-26 July & 1-2 August).

43 events - Open, Junior (18/U, 16/U & 14/U), Grade (A, A Reserve, B & C) and Seniors (60/O, 55/O, 50/O, 45/O, 40/O & 35/O)

All events pre-scheduled to specific days. Initial Round-Robins for Grade & Seniors events pre-scheduled to specific sessions.

Open events on 25-26 July & 1-2 August and Junior events on 18-19 July & 25-26 July.

Entries close this Wednesday, 8 July.

UNIVERSITY OPEN TENNIS
It's July, which means Wimbledon and the University Open.

You can't play Wimbledon but you can play in the University of Queensland Open Tennis Championships.

The 2026 University Open will be played over three weekends (18-19 July, 25-26 July & 1-2 August).

43 events covering all ages and standards - Open, Junior (18/U, 16/U & 14/U), Grade (A, A Reserve, B & C) and Seniors (60/O, 55/O, 50/O, 45/O, 40/O & 35/O)

All events pre-scheduled to specific days:

Junior - 18-19 July & 25-26 July

UQ SINGLES FIXTURES CANCELLED

Unfortunately, the Singles Fixtures tonight (30 June) have to be cancelled.

Although the rain stopped late afternoon, the courts are not drying fast enough for play to start at 7 p.m.

As advertised, the matches will be postponed to next Tuesday night.

UQ SOCIAL TENNIS CANCELLED TODAY (28 JUNE)

Social Tennis and the BBQ at the UQ Tennis Club has been cancelled today (Sunday, 28 June) because of the wet weather.

UQ JUNE SINGLES TOURNAMENT STAGE 2

Beautiful weather for Tennis tonight (Saturday, 27 June), with 41 players competing in Stage 2 of the UQ Tennis Club's June Any-Gender Night Singles Tournament.

Round-robin formats were used to keep everybody playing all night. Two rounds of round-robins, followed by a final play-off match, were needed to get a result for the C Grade event with 34 players.

The event winners were Alex Ghiculescu (A Grade) and Bo Yang (C Grade).

The Lucky Prize Draw winners were Filipe Argentino, Anara Davletaliyeva, Vander Deng, Peter Lawrence, Crystal Palliser, Liam Van Den Berg and Joyce Zhao.

Stage 1 of the tournament (Open & B Grade) was played last Saturday night, 20 June.

Over both nights of the tournament, 81 players competed, which broke the previous record entry of 71 players.

UQ JUNE SINGLES TOURNAMENT STAGE 1

It was a huge night of Tennis at the UQ Tennis Club last night (Saturday, 20 June) with 40 players competing in Stage 1 (Open & B Grade events) of the Club's June Any-Gender Night Singles Tournament.

With 30 players in the B Grade Singles, it was a challenge to get the event completed in a single night.

Round-robin formats were used to keep everybody playing all night. After the round-robins, everybody had a single match to decide final positions.

In the Finals, Daniel Choi d Howie Lim 6-3 (Open) and Kim Jung d Alyosha New 4-2 (B Grade).

The Lucky Prize Draw winners were Alex Freire, Joshua Huang, Jun Kim, Connor Phan, Justin Wu and Yiwei Zhao.

Stage 2 of the tournament (A Grade & C Grade events) will be played next Saturday night, 27 June.

UQ DOUBLE SURPRISE TOURNAMENT

14 players participated in the UQ Tennis Club's Doubles Surprise Tournament which was played this morning (Sunday, 14 June). Play started 1.5 hours late because the courts were very slow drying after overnight rain and heavy early morning fog.

This was a fun tournament format in which all players were paired initially through a random draw and allocated to a numbered court for the first match. After each match, the winners moved up a court and the losers moved down a court. Players then switched partners for the next match. Everybody got six one-set matches for the morning and got to play with & against a variety of players. Games won and games lost were recorded for each player and their match ratios calculated.

The winners of the last match on the top court were Jack Trolove & Saraswat Basu who defeated Christopher Alford & Dien Tran 6-1. The players with the best match ratios were Saraswat Basu (3.09), Jack Trolove (2.40), Christopher Alford (1.28), Dien Tran (1.22) and Dawn Rene (1.12)

The Lucky Prize Draw winners were Arvind Ramaiya, Yanlong Meng and Hudson Unicomb.

There will be no play before 9 a.m. Check in by 8:45 a.m.

The rain has passed but the courts are slow drying because of the heavy fog.
