It was a big weekend in sport for The Hervey Bay Boat Club Bay To Bay Yacht Race 46th edition. Our Friday arrival at Tin Can bay saw us discovering a broken strand in one of our backstay wires. A quick brainstorm and a second “safety” backstay was added to help the semi broken one.

Saturday morning had the live wind readings at double island point showing a consistent 30knots… it made for a slightly apprehensive briefing… 😆. We hit the start line 2-sailing, eventually getting the right angle for a fractional chute. The biggest challenge was picking a flat spot to gybe in the big rolling wind against tide swell that was on the course. We didn’t go for a swim- kept it together and crossed the line 4th and first 2.5m wide boat.

Sunday was a little less breeze wise, but still plenty in it. Had some good rides, but we were a little underpowered with a fractional bag nursing a sketchy rig. We crossed the line battling it with the stealth7 “Guerrilla Biscuits” (the old Transit Lounge) with Shorty taking the first 2.5m wide boat across the line that day.

Another Bay to Bay down, and a heap of new stories with no dull moments!

What a weekend it was for the Australian Sports Boat Association QLD state titles! Held over the weekend out of Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, we did 7 races out up- 3 Saturday and 4 Sunday.

The racing was tight between the two sisterships Ethel and Slingshot, with finish times of only a few seconds apart. Their flush decked sister Raw prawn has just hit the water again after a huge rebuild, the team spent the weekend learning the boat and improved during every race. A few little tweaks and they will be up there mixing with Ethel and Slingshot!!

Next up is St Helena cup where all 3 boats will be out again to battle it out.

Tough weekend for the Caniapa Cup. A light wind regatta with no wind at times. 5th over the line both days saw us claim 2nd in the performance racing division. Sailing only 2-up saw us pretty busy at times but it paid off with some great performances against much bigger boats in light airs.

The Hervey Bay Boat Club Bay To Bay Yacht Race 2025’ done and dusted. Plenty of fast, wild and fun rides this year as well as a decent amount of carnage on the course! Thanks to Jamie for the actions shots!
