WHAT A GREAT FIRST NIGHT BACK!

And just like that… the 2026/27 season is officially underway!

It was so good to see the track full again with familiar faces returning and lots of new Spitfires joining us for their very first night!

A HUGE thank you to our volunteers, Age Marshals, parent helpers, coaches, officials and committee who jumped in and helped keep the night running. We couldn’t do Friday nights without you! 🙌

And thank you to all our families for your patience while we find our feet with our temporary setup while our new clubhouse is being built.

Most importantly, well done to all our athletes, whether you tried something new, caught up with friends, chased a PB or simply gave it your best, it was great to have you back!

WELCOME BACK, SPITFIRES!

Tomorrow night is the night, Friday Night Athletics is BACK!

We’re so excited to kick off our 2026/27 season & can’t wait to see our returning families and welcome plenty of new faces to the Spitfires community!

Grab a coffee (or a wine 😉) & have a quick read through everything you need to know before heading down tomorrow.

WHAT TO EXPECT TOMORROW NIGHT:

If you’re returning to the track, you might notice things look a little different around the grounds!

Our old clubhouse has now been demolished & construction of our new clubhouse has begun!

While this exciting project is underway, our committee & club operations are currently working out of shipping containers.

We’re still finding our feet with the temporary setup, so we ask everyone to please be patient with us over the first few weeks while we work out the best way to make everything run as smoothly as possible.

📍 Arrival
When you arrive, head straight to your age group cones on the grass in front of the clubhouse & wait for your Age Marshal.

⏰ Warm-up: 5:45pm
🏃 Events begin: 6:00pm

👕 Uniforms
Uniforms will be available to purchase & collect from 5:00–6:30pm.

📦 Registration Packs
Unfortunately, we are still waiting for registration packs to arrive from LAQ. We’ll let families know as soon as they are available.

🌭 Canteen
Please note there will be no canteen tomorrow night.

🧥 Don’t forget!
Bring a jumper, it can get chilly once the sun goes down! We also recommend bringing plenty of water and insect repellent.

NEW TO THE CLUB OR FIRST TIME AT ATHLETICS?

Don’t stress, we know the first night can feel a little overwhelming!

🔹Check out the notice board at the front of the canteen for handy information.

🔹Or find one of our committee members. We’ll be around the grounds and are more than happy to point you in the right direction or answer any questions.

📣 A FEW IMPORTANT HOUSEKEEPING REMINDERS

🚭 No Smoking or Va**ng
Smoking & va**ng are not permitted anywhere at the venue in accordance with LAQ regulations.

🐕 No Dogs on the Sporting Fields
This is a Council requirement & is also important for athlete safety.

⚽ No Balls on the Fields
Please leave footballs & other balls at home. With athletes competing across the grounds, this is an important safety rule.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent/Guardian Supervision
A parent or guardian must remain at the grounds at all times while their athlete is participating.

👟 Footwear & Spikes
Athletes must wear enclosed shoes while competing.

IMPORTANT: Spikes must be removed immediately after each event & carried safely between events, they are not to be worn around the grounds.

👕 Uniforms
Please ensure athletes are wearing the full and correct Strathpine uniform for competition nights and carnivals.

TRIVIA #5 — ANSWER REVEALED!

The correct answer is B — the athlete’s torso!

When determining the finish of a race, it’s the torso crossing the vertical plane of the finish line first that counts, not the head, hands or feet.

Did you get this one right?

Another Rules Refresher coming soon!
