Every six months, one of my corporate clients puts on free bicycle servicing and safety checks for the people working across their business precinct in Brisbane City.

Itโ€™s a pretty simple setup.

Everything is organised before I arrive. Staff book their bike in for a time, ride into work as normal, drop it down to me on their way in and head upstairs to work. I look after the bike while they're working and they come back down to collect it when it's ready.

Before the day, I talk with the corporate client about what they're wanting to provide for their employees and we work out the servicing package that best suits what they're trying to achieve.

These days aren't really about major repairs.

I carry out the agreed servicing package and safety check on each bike, and when the rider comes back to collect it, I talk them through what I've found. Anything that needs further attention or replacing, I'll let them know, along with whether the bike is safe to ride.

If something needs work outside of what's included on the day, I'll explain what needs doing. They can book a time for me to come out and do the work, or take that information to their own local bike workshop. There's no expectation that the work comes back to me.

That's not really what these days are about.

It's about giving people who already ride to work an easy way to have their bikes checked regularly, picking up potential safety issues and making cycling to work that little bit easier.

There's another side to it too.

For this particular corporate client, it's also about encouraging more people to consider riding to work instead of driving. Making it easier for employees to look after their bikes is one practical way they can support that.

If your Brisbane workplace is looking at corporate bicycle servicing or employee bike safety checks, get in touch. We can have a chat about what you're wanting to offer your employees and work out a setup that suits your workplace.

If you've hired a bike from Riverlife at Kangaroo Point in 2026, there's a pretty good chance Ethan's worked on it.

Ethan looks after the maintenance on their fleet, which means working his way through the bikes, servicing them, checking for wear and making sure everything is safe before they head back out again.

Fleet bikes definitely live a different life to the bike sitting in your garage.

Lots of different riders, lots of kilometres and plenty of time out and about around Brisbane, so keeping on top of the little things matters.

Brakes, tyres, chains, gears, cables, bearings... they all get checked over and anything that's starting to wear gets picked up.

Ethan actually quite likes working on fleets. You get to know the bikes after a while.

And it's pretty cool knowing that once he's finished with them, they're heading back out to carry someone else around Brisbane.

Pretty packed week ahead for Ethan, including a decent corporate job with around 30โ€“40 bikes needing servicing, so the van got its usual clean out today ready to get back into it tomorrow.

Tools sorted. Van clean. Everything back where it belongs.

It probably won't stay looking this shiny for long...

And if you're a Brisbane business with a fleet of bikes, this is something we do too. We can come to you and take care of servicing and repairs across the fleet.

Ethan can also assess what you've got and, where bikes are no longer worth putting more money into, help with replacement options and quotes.

For tonight though... the van is clean.

Let's see how long that lasts.

โ€œWhy wonโ€™t you just do part of the job?โ€

Fair question โ€” and Iโ€™ll always explain it upfront.

If Iโ€™m working on your bike, Iโ€™m responsible for the outcome.

That means I need to know the whole bike is functioning as it should โ€” not just one part of it.

Sometimes Iโ€™ll point out other issues that need attention. Not to upsell โ€” but because they directly affect how the bike rides and how safe it is.

If those things are left as they are, thereโ€™s a good chance something wonโ€™t feel rightโ€ฆ or wonโ€™t work properly.

And from your side, it just feels like the bike โ€œwasnโ€™t fixed.โ€

From my side, Iโ€™ve been asked to stand behind a job that wasnโ€™t completed properly.

Thatโ€™s why I donโ€™t do half jobs.

If I take it on, I do it properly.

And if something Iโ€™ve worked on isnโ€™t right โ€” Iโ€™ll own it and sort it.

But I wonโ€™t put my name to a bike where I know there are outstanding issues that will affect the result and more importantly โ€” your safety.

Thatโ€™s not how I work, and itโ€™s not fair on either of us.

If you want it done properly โ€” Iโ€™m all in ๐Ÿ‘

Thinking of servicing your dual suspension MTB? Hereโ€™s something most people arenโ€™t toldโ€ฆ

I get a lot of calls about dual suspension mountain bikes, and the first thing I ask usually catches people off guard.

These bikes are the most expensive to maintain.

Not because anythingโ€™s wrong with them โ€” but because of how theyโ€™re built.

Youโ€™ve got:
โ€ข Bearings throughout the frame
โ€ข Swing arm bushes
โ€ข Front suspension (forks)
โ€ข Rear shock
โ€ข Seals, oils, moving parts everywhere

All of these wear out. All of them need regular servicing.

What I see a lot is people buying these bikes brand new and not realising the ongoing maintenance side of it.

Then the servicing gets skippedโ€ฆ
And thatโ€™s when small wear turns into bigger, more expensive problems.

A well-maintained dual suspension rides better, lasts longer, and saves you money in the long run.

And this is exactly why I donโ€™t do quick, partial jobs on these bikesโ€ฆ

If youโ€™re not sure where yours is at, happy to have a look and give you a straight answer ๐Ÿ‘

Not about ditching the car completelyโ€ฆ
just about choosing the bike a little more often.

Quick trip to the shops.
School run.
Coffee run.
A lap around the block to clear your head.

It all counts.

And the funny thing isโ€ฆ once the bike starts getting used,
it doesnโ€™t sit there collecting dust anymore.

We see it all the time โ€”
the more you ride, the more you want to ride.

If your bikeโ€™s been sitting a bit too long,
you know where we are ๐Ÿ‘Š

Worth keeping an eye on this ๐Ÿ‘‡

Thereโ€™s a bit happening in the e-bike space at the moment, and a lot of riders arenโ€™t 100% sure where things stand.

If youโ€™re riding an e-bike โ€” especially if itโ€™s been modified or youโ€™re unsure on the rules โ€” this could be a really useful session.

Weโ€™ll be keeping a close eye on how this unfolds.

Will your e-bike be illegal on July 1?

The Transport and Other Legislation (Managing Emobility Use and Protecting
Our Communities) Amendment Bill 2026 has thrown up a number of issues for riders of safe, legal e-bikes.

- Do you know how the proposed e-mobility legislation will impact you?
- Do you understand why a bike with 600W peak power may have 250W normalised power?
- Are you curious about where the 10km/h limits may be applied if the draft bill gets approved?
- Has the draft bill created more questions than it has solved problems?

Then come along between 7:15-8:30am on Tuesday April 21, to meet with BQ and our trusted Bicycle User Groups at the northern end of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. We will help answer your questions.

Details in the BQ Events calendar.

Last night was a good one ๐Ÿ‘‡

We had the team from Beyond the Boardroom bring in 5 bikes put together as part of one of their corporate team building events ๐Ÿšฒ

They donโ€™t just do bikes โ€” their whole focus is getting teams to build something togetherโ€ฆ then donate it to a charity.
Really solid concept ๐Ÿ‘Œ

When bikes are part of the build (and when theyโ€™re working in Brisbane), thatโ€™s where we come in.

Because once a group has put them together, they still need a proper safety check before theyโ€™re handed over.

Thatโ€™s Ethanโ€™s job ๐Ÿ”ง

Going over each bike properly โ€” brakes, gears, adjustments โ€” making sure theyโ€™re not just put together, but actually rideable and safe for the new owners.

They brought these ones to us to save on travel, and with a quick turnaround, Ethan had them checked and back to them that same night โ€” ready to be donated first thing this morning before they flew home ๐Ÿ‘

~

Itโ€™s a good reminder tooโ€ฆ

We donโ€™t just fix individual bikes.

We also work with businesses for:
โœ”๏ธ Corporate team events
โœ”๏ธ Workplace servicing days
โœ”๏ธ Staff bike safety checks
โœ”๏ธ Event support

If your team rides to work (or wants to)โ€ฆ we can get everyone sorted in one hit ๐Ÿš

Good people, good causeโ€ฆ easy yes from us ๐Ÿ‘Š
