One of the common patterns I notice when working with clients is that emotional eating is rarely about food itself.
More often, it's about trying to soothe stress, overwhelm or difficult emotions.
When we understand what's driving the behaviour beneath the surface, change becomes much more sustainable.

What is Emotional Eating?
Emotional eating isn't simply eating too much.
It's eating to manage emotions rather than physical hunger.
Stress, anxiety, boredom, loneliness or frustration can all trigger the urge to eatβeven when your body doesn't actually need food.
The good news is that once you understand the emotional patterns behind eating, lasting change becomes much more achievable.

Have you ever been told, "You seem fine"?
Many people living with anxiety hear this because they hide their struggles so well.
Without sharing anything too personal, have you ever felt that people didn't realise how much pressure you were under?

Not everyone with anxiety looks anxious.
Some people continue to excel at work, care for their families and appear calm on the outside while privately feeling overwhelmed.
High-functioning anxiety often involves:
β’ Overthinking
β’ Perfectionism
β’ Difficulty relaxing
β’ Feeling guilty when resting
β’ Constantly thinking ahead
If this sounds familiar, remember that you don't have to wait until you're completely burnt out before seeking support.

One of the things I value most about our Spring Hill clinic is providing a calm, supportive space close to Brisbane CBD where people can step away from the pressures of daily life and focus on their own wellbeing.
Sometimes, simply having the opportunity to pause, reflect, and be heard is an important first step.

Why doesn't a weekend away always fix burnout?
Many people think they simply need more rest. While rest is essential, chronic stress often involves deeper patterns such as perfectionism, difficulty switching off, and ongoing emotional pressure.
If these patterns remain unchanged, stress can quickly return once normal life resumes.
