Athlete Spotlight: Meagan "Brownie" Brown πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

We are incredibly lucky to have some phenomenal athletes lining up for our events this July. In the lead-up to race day, we're featuring some of their stories right here.

In this edition, meet Meagan "Brownie" Brownβ€”a familiar face on Brisbane's trails and someone who has been inspiring runners in our community for years. πŸ’š

πŸ₯ˆ Brownie is no stranger to The Guzzler. Back in 2021, she claimed an impressive 3rd place in The Big Sipper 21km. In 2023, she stepped up to finish 2nd in The Glass Half Full 50km, before returning in 2025 to claim another 2nd place in The Dry Run 10km.

πŸ… This year, she's making a huge leapβ€”lining up for the 100km Guzzler Ultra for the very first time in pursuit of the full set of Guzzler finisher medals.

Running on her home trails, Brownie is excited to link the entire course together and find out whether Job 6 and Township Break are still her favourite sections... after 60+ kilometres of running! πŸ˜…

Away from The Guzzler, she's built an incredible trail running rΓ©sumΓ©, with standout performances across some of Australia's toughest events, including a 4th place finish in the 46km Alpine Marathon at the Kunanyi Mountain Run earlier this year.

Brownie is also the founder of Shakeout Running, a community she created in 2021 to encourage and support more women to discover trail running and take on ultra-distance events. It's a mission that perfectly reflects the welcoming spirit of our trail community. πŸ’œ

We can't wait to see Brownie swap the Dry Run for the big dance this July. With years of trail experience behind her and a whole community cheering her on, she'll be one to watch as she tackles her first Guzzler 100km. πŸ™Œ

🧑 Join the Crew: New Volunteer Roles Are Live! It takes a village to bring an event like this to life, and we have just opened up a heap of brand-new volunteer roles in the event precinct!

If you want to be right in the thick of the race-day energy, the volunteer portal is waiting for you.

πŸ™Œ What Could You Be Doing? Precinct tasks vary wildly, so there is something to suit everyone. You could be:

Spreading the Good Vibes: Handing out high-fives and hanging well-deserved medals around the necks of our finishers.

Fuel Station Heroes: Chopping fruit and prepping snacks to keep our runners moving.

Precinct Legends: Helping out at the merch desk or assisting runners and spectators as they navigate the hub.

🌟 Why Volunteer?
Aside from being the absolute lifeblood of the event, you will get to experience the incredible community spirit from the best seat in the house. Plus, our volunteers are always looked after with plenty of perks and our eternal gratitude.

Whether you are supporting a runner, resting up between your own races, or just love the trail community, we would love to have you on the team.

πŸ“’ The 2026 Guides Have Landed!

Whether you are hitting the trails or taking up a prime position on the sidelines, everything you need to know for race day is officially live.

πŸ“– Inside the Guides

For the Runners: Essential race day schedules, mandatory gear checks, course details, and safety info.

For the Crew & Supporters: The best vantage points, estimated runner passing times, and how to support your runner without getting lost in the bush.

What’s New? (Just a Few Small Changes!)

Even if you are a seasoned veteran of this event, we recommend giving the new guides a look over. We have made just a few minor tweaks this year to keep things running smoothly:

πŸ”„ Minor Cut-off Adjustments: There are a couple of slight updates to the cut-off times for the 100km and 50km courses. They aren't major overhauls, but worth a quick look to make sure your pacing strategy is locked in.

πŸ”„ Slight Checkpoint Menu Tweaks: We have made a few small adjustments to the food options at the checkpoints to keep you moving. Check the list to finalise your nutrition plan.

πŸ”„ New Race Directors: Same great event, just some fresh faces steering the ship this year! Be sure to give our new Race Directors a wave, they've been working hard!

Both the Participant Guide and the Spectator & Crew (Armchair) Guide are available to view and download right now and a copy will be landing in all registered participant inboxes shortly.

Head over to the website to grab your copy, check out the small updates, and let's get ready for the trails!

Athlete Spotlight: David Vernon πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

We are incredibly lucky to have some phenomenal athletes lining up for our events this July. In the lead-up to race day, we're featuring some of their stories right here.

In this edition, meet David Vernonβ€”a familiar face on the Queensland trail running scene and a proud member of Norths Run Club.

David is no stranger to our local trails. He currently holds an impressive 6 of the 8 course records across the SEQ Trail Running Series and has been a regular at Those Guys Events over the years.

He's also no stranger to The Guzzler, finishing 2nd in The Big Sipper 21km back in 2021 in a fast race won by Ben Duffus.

David has been in excellent form this year, taking 1st place in the 23km event at Tarawera Ultra-Trail by UTMB in New Zealand before backing it up with another victory in the 25km In the Raw race through the Gold Coast Hinterland in May.

This July, he'll be back on the start line of The Big Sipper 21km, adding even more depth to an incredibly competitive field.
