Congratulations to Cheryl and TJ on receiving Life Membership of the North Queensland Cruising Yacht Club! ⛵️

At our recent AGM, Cheryl and TJ were recognised with Life Membership in appreciation of their many years of dedication, hard work and continued support of the Club.
Both have contributed enormously to NQCYC over the years, including most recently through their roles as Commodore and Rear Commodore, and their commitment has helped make the Club what it is today.
A very well-deserved recognition.

Pilcher Brothers Race ⛵

With the second-last Pointscore race of the season underway at 12pm, the original plan was to send the fleet around Middle Island. There was just one minor problem: the wind had apparently missed the start time.

With very little breeze to work with, the gentlemen aboard Katana, particularly former Rear Commodore Ray TJ, took it upon themselves to do a little creative course management. As the breeze dictated where anyone was actually capable of sailing, a new course was born.

The fleet headed around Southern Cross Buoy, Stone Island and Thomas Island Buoy before making its way back into the bay. By then the breeze had finally decided to join the race, allowing the fleet to continue to N2, the Mango Buoy and the finish.

Air Apparent had race sponsor Terry Pilcher aboard and claimed line honours, while Sea Change took the Pointscore win. Pronto was the smartest yacht in the race and pulled out due to the lack of wind.

A big thank you to the Pilcher Brothers for sponsoring today's race and for their continued support of sailing at NQCYC.

And thank you to Kath for starting the fleet and, after the sailors had finished redesigning the course, being there to finish them as well!

Another Saturday Twilight done and dusted at NQCYC!

Congratulations to Pronto, taking out first place, followed by Frequent Flyer in second and Katana in third. Cappy finished fourth, with Sea Change rounding out the fleet in fifth.

Thank you also to everyone who has served on the committee, volunteered their time and helped keep NQCYC going. It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to keep a yacht club afloat, and surprisingly, not all of it involves sailing. ⛵️

⛵ Beautiful Twilight Sailing on Edgecumbe Bay 🌅

The last two weeks have delivered absolutely beautiful conditions for our Twilight Racing on Edgecumbe Bay.

TJ and Katana have certainly made the most of them, taking the win in both races! 🏆⛵

Last week’s Twilight Race was proudly sponsored by Tim Warren Auto Electrical, while yesterday’s race was sponsored by Tropix Refrigeration. A huge thank you to both of our sponsors for their continued support of sailing at NQCYC!

Five yachts took to the water yesterday in calm conditions, with some close racing through the fleet. Katana took the win, followed by Ruthless in second and Testarossa in third, with Cappy fourth and Pronto fifth.

While the year might be disappearing alarmingly quickly, our sailing calendar certainly isn’t finished yet! There are plenty more Twilight Sails to come, along with two remaining Pointscore races, the Two-Handed Series and the Summer Series.

Still plenty of opportunities to get out on the water before the end of the year. ⛵🌅
