A few competition recaps coming up before Nationals...

Starting with Grappling Industries last month, where we had 28 athletes compete and almost all of them make it onto the podium.

Dominance take on the Asian Championships in Japan!

Recently we took a team of 19 Dominance athletes, plus friends from other academies, to compete in the 2026 IBJJF Asian Championships in Chiba, Japan.

Not only is this the biggest and most prestigious Gi competition in the Asia-Pacific region, but having the opportunity to compete in the spiritual home of the martial arts is something our team was very excited for.

Over the course of 5 days of competition, we supported one another as we showcased our Jiu Jitsu and team camaraderie, ultimately crowning 6 Asian Champions and collecting 18 medals. We also finished with a top 10 placing in the Masters team category.

Sharing the mats together in Japan was amazing moment and many great memories were built during our trip. Thank you to our Japanese friends Arta BJJ Hiroo, Sakura Jiu Jitsu and Carpe Diem for sharing your mats with us in the lead up to the competition. And thank you to BYOU Media for capturing the moments.

Our Bentleigh Mid-Year Adults Grading was a memorable one, with DOMINANCE’S original founder and head coach, Dave Hart, there to celebrate with the Bentleigh team.

The atmosphere was awesome. It was great to see the support, encouragement, and genuine excitement for everyone stepping up to receive the belts they had earned. That’s what makes gradings special. It’s not just the individual achievement, it’s the whole room recognising the work that went into it and celebrating that progress together.

We’re proud of the open, collaborative, growth-oriented culture we’re building at Bentleigh. A room where everyone is welcome, hard work is respected, and we build from the ground up.

Congratulations to everyone who graded, and a special congratulations to those receiving coloured belts. Every belt represents dedication, consistency, and the persistence to keep showing up. Well done everyone.

We’re incredibly proud of everyone who graded, and especially proud of the camaraderie, encouragement, and support the kids showed each other throughout the day.

With many of our senior kids having recently moved into the adult classes, the new generation has already started stepping up to fill their shoes. Watching them lead by example, cheer on their teammates, and celebrate each other’s success was a great demonstration of the culture we’re building together.

For those who got belts - earned through consistent effort, focus, resilience, and a willingness to keep improving - we hope you’re proud of the work you did to get this milestone.
To all of our kids and families, thank you for being part of such a special day. The future of our team is looking very bright.

Kids Grading March 2026

🌟 Huge congratulations to everyone who graded! 🌟

Jiu Jitsu is a very challenging art and sport. Our kids continue to test themselves, improve, and lift the bar for each other every time they step on the mat - and they do it all with smiles on their faces!

We love seeing our kids develop an understanding that promotions are earned, and that real progress comes through effort. It gives both them and us a real sense of achievement. We’re proud of each and every one of you.

2026 AFBJJ Victorian State Championship.

What a weekend for the DOMINANCE team!
DOMINANCE finished the Victorian State Championships as the #1 ranked adult team in the state across all four divisions, alongside a 2nd place finish in the Juniors.

An incredible effort across every division all weekend.

Behind the medals is thousands of hours on the mats. Hard rounds. Tough training sessions. Wins, losses, pressure, setbacks, breakthroughs and teammates pushing each other to improve every day.

Competition is only one part of training, but weekends like this are a reflection of the culture the team builds week after week.

We’re proud of everyone who stepped out there - first timers, experienced competitors, kids, adults, coaches and supporters alike.

Last month saw some of our team head over to Sydney to compete in the our first interstate competition of the year - the NSW State Championships.

The team had a great hit out leaving with 30 gold medals and some incredible performances. Dominance also had the best win/loss ratio of the Gi and No Gi standings and came away with the number 1 No Gi Team.

Every day in the gym we support and push each other and strive to become the best versions of ourselves and it shows on the competition mats. An amazing effort by all those who travelled and competed.

Victorian State Championships up next!

Last month, we competed at Grappling Industries - one of the first local events of the season for many of our athletes.

It was great to see such a strong turnout, with a mix of first-time competitors stepping onto the mats and more experienced athletes continuing to test themselves.

These events play an important role. New competitors gain valuable experience and push outside their comfort zone, while established athletes sharpen their skills and build momentum heading into the bigger competitions later in the season.

We’re proud to say Dominance MMA finished the day as #1 Overall Team.

A big congratulations to everyone who competed. It takes real courage to step out there and represent.

Thank you to the coaches, teammates and supporters who showed up and backed it throughout the day.

December Grading Recap.

Back in December we held our final BJJ grading for 2025, and it was a huge one with members from Thomastown, Bentleigh and Abbotsford coming together to celebrate.

Our students stepped up, pushed through tough rounds, and showed the hard work they've been putting in all year. Gradings are never easy, they're designed to test your technique, pressure, conditioning, and mindset.

A massive congratulations to everyone who earned their next level. Promotions like these are built on months (and often years) of consistent training, and it's awesome to see the progress across the team.
