Good Afternoon All,
At a BCGBR board meeting held on Tuesday night, the region board decided not to endorse the proposed conditions of play, particularly in relation to going back to 25 ends. We wish to advise the following reasons for that decision:
Our soon to be implemented Strategic Plan - one of the key values is around communication with clubs.
Lack of consultation with clubs - there hasn't been enough consultation with clubs or enough time for clubs to be able to provide an adequate response to the communication sent out about the proposed conditions of play.
Responses so far - not all clubs responded to the proposed conditions of play (only around half) and of them a large number were in the negative. So based on the responses actually received clubs were not in favour of the change. The board has a duty to support the clubs that we represent.
We thank the newly appointed Match Committee for taking the initiative to try and improve bowls within our region, however time is against us with the 2026-27 season fast approaching.
The board is not saying that they would not support going back to 25 ends but believe there needs to be consultation with clubs during the season to then be able to look at it again for next season. This allows for all clubs and bowlers to be aware of any possible changes well before the season is to start. It's also about putting it back on the radar of bowlers again as it's not something that's really been discussed for a couple of years.
As such for the 2026-27 season 21 ends will remain with a break in both Midweek and Weekend Pennant.
The ratified Conditions of Play and Draws will be sent out to all Clubs shortly.
Regards,
