This one was special. Prior to leaving for the Pro Stock Nationals at Willowbank Raceway we were given the heartbreaking news of the passing of one of the best people I know Jai Schluter. After some back and forth with family and racing family we all knew the only decision was to show up, support Corrina, Bobbie-Nicole, Taylah-leigh, Dylan, Ma, Pa and all the family throughout this time. If the shoe was on the other foot Jai would of been there sending it to the moon. I first met Jai when I was 17 and from then Jai and all of his family have been massive supporters of both Marcus and myself, from helping me set up the car from Day 1, being the one guiding me in during licensing and testing, making sure my head was in the right space before letting go of that button, organising parts, fuel, events and set ups, transporting Marcus' bike to Adelaide and helping Marcus with all the little 1% techniques that have made him the rider he is today. The moment for me though, was Friday Q1. I had made a deal with Chrisy during the build, that if I could get the car to run consistently to 8.70 @ 158mph naturally aspirated we would be confident to put the nitrous on. I told Jai about this deal and he laughed and said "Mate, if we can't get that thing into the 8.50's @ 160mph, you better let me drive it". He was so proud standing with me on the startline at the All Ford Day when we did a PB of 8.65 @ 159mph. One day after his passing, when he should of been lined up right beside me on Friday in Q1, with Jai's incredibly strong family and crew standing in my lane, I let go off the button, front wheels up and tried to push my foot through the firewall, 8.59 @ 160.8mph.... he had to be right one last time!!! I'll never forget that moment and always be indebted to you and your family. You'll ride with me every pass I make, Love ya mate!!
