I’ve been thinking about how differently I look at my body now compared to when I was younger.

I still care about looking good. I still have goals and things I want to work on.

But somewhere along the way, what I value about my body changed.

I care a lot more about being able to move well and feel strong. I want to be able to be as agile as possible, walk for hours, lift things, train and keep doing all of that as I get older.

And after spending so many years working with bodies, I’ve been mindful to mute out the noise on what needs to be “fixed.” So much that many of us get brainwashed with.

We all have asymmetries. We have natural curves, old injuries, areas that are tighter, areas that are more mobile and things about our structure that may never change very much.

I think when I was younger I would have seen some of those things as problems.

Today I think how well can this body work with what it has?

Can I keep all of those areas moving? Can I build strength around the body I actually have instead of constantly trying to force it into societies idea of perfection?

I want the body I have now to still serve me 20, 30, 40 years from now.

That’s been one of the biggest changes for me as I’ve gotten older.

I’m not less invested in my body.

If anything, I’m more invested in it than I’ve ever been. My idea on what an aging body should be able to do has increased.

I just have a very different idea of what taking care of it actually means.

I think we spend so much time worrying about ageing that we forget how lucky we are to have the opportunity to keep getting to know our bodies as they change.

And I’d much rather get older feeling strong, capable and at home in mine than spend the next few decades trying to make it up to an unrealistic standard.

Has the way you look at your body changed as you’ve gotten older?

This is the part where my nervous system learns it doesn’t always have to be “on" and I go into my own recovery world. Who else?

From the outside, and what's also a misrepresentation, is that I move for the physical. When the truth is, it's more mental than anything.

Yet it's completely understandable estimated and talked about.

Exercise has taught me so much, reminded me on the dark days why I do it, whenever I have a low activity period how much I change, and it's built so much resilience ♥️

Which is why I care so much to share this because the "physical" can be off putting for some.

This may be the inspo needed for change.

How have you noticed the changes for yourself?

Let's talk abs + core...

The plank is a famous exercise but confidence with this exercise comes from learning how to get started correctly.

So if you have been wondering how to do a plank correctly or if you have been wondering if you should tuck your pelvis and flatten your lower back during a plank to “protect your spine,” this video is for you.

💥7 uncomfortable truths I wish more women were told.

I’m probably going to p**s a few people off with this one.

Good.

Because after years of working with women I'm not here to sugar coat or mislead you with fluff.

I'm here to guide you towards your dream body.

So let's dive in.

🔥1. Stop stretching the sh!🔥t out of a body that already feels unstable.

Feeling tight does NOT automatically mean you need more flexibility.

I see this constantly.

Women stretching their hips, hamstrings and backs every single day because something feels tight.

Meanwhile their body is practically begging them for strength and control. Sometimes that tension is there for a reason.

Your body isn’t tightening up for no reason.

🔥2. Your posture probably isn’t the problem you’ve been convinced it is.

Tuck, pull, brace, lift, squeeze and look perfect like this text book model, all while trying to coordinate your weekly grocery shop.... yea no thanks!

Your body was designed to MOVE through different positions.

I’m far more interested in what your body can control rather than the general idea of “perfect posture.”

🔥3. If your core only feels strong when you’re bracing the hell out of it, I don’t consider that a strong core.

Your core needs to respond to breathing.

Load.

Rotation.

Flexion.

Extension.

Walking.

Life.

You shouldn’t have to walk around consciously gripping your stomach all day to feel supported.

And this is where a lot of women realise they don't actually need another workout plan.

They need someone to look at how THEIR body is moving and figure out what the hell is actually going on.

That’s a huge part of what I do with my private clients.

🔥4. Stop being terrified of bending your spine.

Your back is not a piece of glass.

I’ve watched women become more afraid of their bodies because they’ve consumed years of content telling them everything they’re doing is “wrong.”

Your knees went over your toes.

Your back rounded.

Your pelvis tilted.

Your ribs flared.

Not all of this is wrong.

Some bodies work better with a bit of a flare or a tilt.

There are many nuances to each individual body.

We need less generalisation and more personalisation!

🔥5. Your glutes might not need another activation exercise.

If you’ve been clamshelling your way through the last five years and still “can’t feel your glutes”…

Maybe we need to stop blaming your glutes.

Your feet, pelvis, spine, ribcage and the way you’re loading the exercise all influence what you feel.

The body works as a system, so lets train it like one ;)

🔥6. More exercises aren't necessarily going to get you a better result.

This one took me years of coaching to appreciate.

Sometimes I remove exercises or make things simpler.

Sometimes the breakthrough comes from changing ONE small thing and actually giving the body time to adapt.

More isn't always better.

Better is better.

🔥7. Eventually you have to stop trying to FIX your body and start building it.

This is the big one.

You can spend years chasing every tight muscle, clicking joint, posture asymmetry and little thing that doesn't look perfectly symmetrical.

Or…

You can build a body that's strong enough to handle being human.

Because THAT is the goal.

Not perfect posture.

Not perfect alignment.

Not never feeling an ache again.

A strong confident body you trust.

And yes, getting there can be uncomfortable.

You might have to stop doing some of the things you've believed were helping you for years.

You might need to get stronger or move in ways you've been avoiding.

You might need to stop treating your body like something that's constantly broken.

My work isn't for the woman looking for another quick fix.

It's for the woman who's ready to understand her body, build the foundations she's missing and actually get strong.

If that's you, message me STRONG to chat about how we can create the perfect plan for you.

Here's to building a body strong enough for life and your dreams ❤

The other day my jaw dropped when I saw someone instruct their client and they told them "to squeeze their glutes as hard as they can on the way up and then keep that squeeze while they lowered down too".

Like what...
The....

You can finish the rest lol.

It's a shame the coach didn't know basic 101 training...

That when you contract on the concentric 'up' phase of the movement you will create tightening of the muscle.

And on the way down, as you eccentrically contract, you will lengthen.

Which specifically means you do not create tension, unless you want to create pelvic floor dysfunction or teach someone bad training habits.

And to top it off, squeezing hard as you come up is out dated too.

If someone is struggling to connect with their glutes, squeezing isn't going to magically make anything better.

There are usually other areas we need to assess to see why the muscle is not firing.

Want help with your glutes, lower body, or core? Send me a message and tell me what you have been doing so far and I'll see if I can guide you in the right direction.

Stay bootyful xoxo

The whole conversation around core strength and stability has become so distorted for women and it's not fair to so many women who are putting in the effort.

So many women are confused about what stability actually feels like or looks like.

Yes your core may be working in a particular way in a tucked position, which we may do in some pilates, yoga or mobility exercises....

However, if it becomes STUCK like that (which many are doing), when we want it to be able to work the opposite way, depending on the exercise or for general movement, we lose access to strength in other areas which will lead to unhelpful compensations.

Turn up the volume 📽 xoxo

My glutes feel tight and flat. Why don't I feel them working or why are they not getting stronger? I will be honest, there is more than one answer to this question, but this right here is something a lot of people miss. It's worth playing with your position and assess how you feel. Note, your depth/length may become shorter or less when working on your alignment, that is normal.

For more help with your glutes, back, core or any ni**le, send me a PM and let's chat about it.
