RIMFIRE FLY SHOOT

A 100m Rimfire Fly Shoot was conducted at the Rimfire Range in beautiful Spring weather with excellent light and little wind. These excellent shooting conditions resulted in a well attended shoot and some impressive scores.

The Fly Shoot was developed by ACT SSAA members and is usually shot at 500m with a precision centre fire rifle. While there are the usual scoring rings on the target competitors gain extra points if they can hit part of the blowfly placed over the 10 ring. with 0.1 added to hits on the scoring ring. The match began with competitors having time to check their rifle sights for 100m and then two 10 shot groups were shot and scored on separate targets.

Shooters were divided into two groups with one group using sophisticated benchrest rifles and equipment with the other using standard sporting rifles.

In the Benchrest class Robert D. posted the best score with 197.3/200 followed by Kevin G. with 188.4

Using a Sporting rifle Glenn J. shot an incredible score of 192.6 followed by Alex J. with 171.2

Top Junior Shooter was a very consistent Mila S. with a tremendous score of 176.7.

Other great scores were:

BENCHREST SPORTING
Wayne S. 188.4 Mario M. 165.4
Isaac F. 187.4 Leo I. 150
John C. 186.3 Kevin G. 148.1

The Riverina Fi****ms Centre generously sponsored the matches with vouchers and a Yeti travel mug.

BENCHREST RIMFIRE MATCH

A 100m Benchrest Match was held at the Rimfire Range in difficult conditions with a cold wind, drizzle rain and poor light impacting on good scores. 300m FLY SHOOT

Over a dozen keen benchrest shooters braved the cold, windy conditions at the Rankins Springs Range recently to compete in a a 300m FLY Shoot. While this event has usually been shot at 500m a reduced sized target has been developed by SSAA for the shorter distance. This makes it more attractive to shooters who don't have more specialised rifles with targets scopes for the longer distance.

The FLY rules remain the same with up to 8 shots on each target with 5 scoring shots and the option of 3 sighting shots if needed. An extra point is scored if any part of the FLY in the centre is hit.

After check sighting their rifles and ammo at sighting targets set at 300, each competitor completed groups on three targets to be scored.

After the scores were tallied the top scorers were:

1st Wayne S. 116.1
2nd: Robert V. 114.1
Top Junior: Eva V. 96.1

The shoot was generously sponsored by the Riverina Fi****ms Centre who donated vouchers for 1st and 2nd place and a YETI travel mug for the Top Junior.

The next shoot will be a 100m Benchrest match (group shooting) on 9 August at the Rimfore Range commencing at 9-00am for any rimfire rifle.

RIMFIRE BENCHREST MATCH

A well attended Benchrest Match was held at the Rimfire Range in clear but very cool shooting conditions with a mild cross wind as an added challenge. With the targets set at 100m the challenge was to shoot two groups of 10 shots with the highest scores.

There was a good variety of well set up benchrerst rifles and stands as well as some standard sporting rifles on more basic rests or bipods. Rifles were separated into heavy benchrest and light sporting groups.

After some sighting shots to check sight rifles two 10 shot groups were shot to be scored. The 100m match is a challenge for some but there were plenty of good scores above 170 out of a possible 200 points.

In the Heavy group John C. was 1st with an excellent score of 181 followed by Wayne S. with 181 points.

In the Light rifle group Glen J. shot a superb score of 181 points followed by Ben W with 170 points.

The two Juniors who competed Milla S. and Scarlet K. both shot incredible tied scores of 180 points each with Millia declared the winner of the Top Junior travel mug on a count back.

Winners received vouchers and the travel mug courtesy of Riverina Fi****ms Centre who generously sponsored the shoot.

The next shoot will be a 300m FLY SHOOT on 26 July commencing at 10-00am at the Rankins Springs Range.
