Our Teacher/Coach Spotlight series continues!
This week we’re introducing Trish, who has been teaching swimming for three-ish years.
Trish loves all the different personalities she meets through teaching and the funny things her swimmers say and do. These moments are a wonderful reminder of how important play is in the learning process and in life!
In her lessons, Trish regularly focuses on streamlining, also known as the rocket, or the “unicorn,” as one of her swimmers calls it and floating. She believes that being able to roll onto your back, breathe and gather your thoughts is an especially important water-safety skill.
Trish’s favourite teaching moments are those little moments of joy when a swimmer realises they have learnt or refined a new skill. Watching nervous or anxious swimmers become comfortable and confident in the water is priceless.
If you’ve been poolside, you may have heard Trish asking:
“Can you help me get that sinky? I can’t reach it!”
It’s one of her favourite ways to encourage a cautious swimmer into the water. You may also hear her apologising for her singing, along with a special thank you to everyone who joins in and helps muffle her vocals!
And what keeps Trish coming back to our swim school?
“I love the water, it’s my happy place. I’d like everyone to have the opportunity to develop the skills they need to feel comfortable and confident in the water.”
It’s Trish’s warmth, humour and passion for helping swimmers develop confidence and lifelong water skills that make her such a valued member of our team.
Thank you, Trish, for everything you bring to our swim school community!
