Bateau Bay Bowlers win State Championship!

Bateau Bay’s Grade 1 Pennant side have won the Central Coast region Grade 1 Pennant flag 4 out of the last 5 years, which itself is an enormous achievement. These wins have provided the team with a crack at the State Finals. The State finals bring together the 16 regional winners to contest the title. Despite being a regular finalist over the past few years, the title had thus far proved to be elusive. Last weekend however, the event, held in Yamba, saw Bateau Bay finally claimed the title.

The team progressed through the competition in a series of sectional matches playing against Merimbula, Taren Point and Tuncurry Sports. After the 3 games of sectional play, the team finished on top of the section guaranteeing a spot in the quarter finals.
They faced Inverell in the quarters where they had another resounding win.
Campbelltown were the next opponents and in what was a very tight contest, that came down to the last bowl, Bateau Bay managed a 2 shot win to make the State Final.
The Club then played Corrimal in the final who were the defending champions from last season.
The final was live streamed all over the country and with a great crowd gathered at Bateau Bay Bowling Club, all witnessed Bateau Bay win their first ever Grade 1 Sate Final, becoming only the 3rd Central Coast Club in the last 50 years to achieve this.
Along with this Bateau Bay bowler Joel Nouws was voted MVP of the tournament and Sam Griffiths a junior Bateau Bay Bowlers who we have supported became one of the youngest ever played to win a Grade 1 flag.

On Monday afternoon, the winning team and new State champions, were greeted back at Bateau Bay Bowling Club to a large crowd of supporters with the song “We are the champions” blasting over the speakers.
