of various styles and types. Until the Industrial Revolution, cottage builders were limited to use materials that were cheaper and readily available. Mud, timber, cob, stone, flint, limestone and brick were all used and villages became identifiable by their own style. Our model buildings were all built on site and all components used were hand made using a 1:10 scale and are exact replicas of the actual buildings in England. A variety of materials are used to make the models, with the base made of either acrylic or fibreglass, then stone and render added to the facia. Local Dave Robinson, from Falcon and an antenna fitter by trade, was the main creator of the buildings and it took over 4,000 hours to complete the model village buildings, some models taking in excess of 500 hours to complete. Take a step back in time and visit the heritage house, named ‘Ruby House’ after the original owner. The once 3 bedroom home was originally owned by Stephen and Ruby Bosci, where they lived for many years, raising 15 children there. Whilst you are there you can enjoy freshly brewed coffee, 5 types of tea served in old fashioned china, hot chocolate, iced coffee or chocolate or a milkshake, morning or afternoon tea, Devonshire tea or a light lunch. You can choose to be seated inside the heritage house or relax outside on the verandas or in the wisteria covered al fresco courtyard. Ruby House Tearooms are open to the public, with no entry fee payable for visitors to our Tearooms only. Abingdon exhibits over 6000 plants with 300 different species and varieties, many of which are rare and difficult to obtain. With 2,500 conifers of more than 100 varieties, Abingdon has one of the largest conifer displays in Western Australia. There are in excess of 600 azaleas on display with more than 60 different varieties, ensuring Abingdon is in flower for most of the year. Springtime sees the daffodils and tulips in bloom and summer brings the wonder of wisteria to the walkways and gardens. Flower beds are rotated 4 times a year, planting as many as 20,000 seedlings to create colourful flower displays year round. Wild parrots, ducks and many species of birds, including the beautiful Splendid Blue Wren, have made Abingdon gardens their home.
