Banjup trainer Michael Young holds a strong hand in the Kids Eat Free Free-For-All over 2130m at Gloucester Park on Friday night with three runners, Penny Black (barrier four), Lincoln Lou (five) and Luvbite (nine).

Emily Suvaljko, the stable’s No. 1 driver, has given punters a valuable lead by choosing to handle Penny Black, one of the four mares in the race. Aiden de Campo will drive Lincoln Lou, and Stuart McDonald has been engaged for the evergreen Luvbite.

Suvaljko drove Luvbite when the in-form seven-year-old set the pace in the 2536m Howard Porter Memorial over 2536m last Friday night. A fast lead time took its toll and Luvbite wilted slightly in the late stages to finish a close third behind Youre So Fine and Penny Black.

Penny Black, driven by de Campo, began from the No. 7 barrier and after settling down in seventh position she worked hard in the breeze for more than two circuits.

“I will be looking to lead with Penny Black, and if she finds the front she will be hard to beat,” said Suvaljko. “She was really gutsy last week. I thought I was home on the corner (with the leader Luvbite), but Penny Black put me away.

“Luvbite is drawn outside of Penny Black this week, and he couldn’t beat her last week after starting from the inside of her. Lincoln Lou will be having his first start after a spell, and he has been working very well.

“Lincoln Lou has been working with Hugotastic, and it is exciting to have them both back racing on Friday night.” Hugotastic, a winner at seven of his 29 starts, will begin from the No. 5 barrier in the Taste Of WA Pace over 2130m.

Beetastic, a younger half-sister to Hugotastic, will also be racing first-up after a spell when she begins from the prized No.1 barrier in the 1730m JP’s Drink Specials Pace. She will be driven by Shannon Suvaljko, with his daughter Emily choosing to handle stablemate Iseeubaby, a smart all-the-way winner last Friday night, who is favourably drawn at barrier two.

“Iseeubaby is a good mile horse and is a 1.53.5 winner at Bunbury (three months ago),” said Emily. “If she gets to the front she will run a really good race.”

Known for her quirks, Iseeubaby (Groovey) decided last night was time to show us her serious side 😂

She worked hard through a fast lead time before finding the front — exactly where she likes to be — and once she got there, she wasn’t letting anyone past!

A strong effort to bring up her first win for the stable. And doesn’t she look chuffed about it!🥇

Turns out when Groovey puts her mind to it, she can be pretty handy! 😜
