I Listened to the Rain

Underneath the shelter
Rain is pouring down
All around me strangers
Seeking shelter just the same

Or are they waiting for the ferry
To chug onto shore
To take them across the river
As the rain continues to pour

Rainy last day in December
Campers tourist locals and alike
Most wanting sunshine
To swim and play and fish and ride

They sit and watch in waiting
For their chance to come
To execute their plans
The weather makes demands

Boats in the harbour waiting
for their turn to to come
All covers neatly over
Waiting no one comes

Fish are busy swimming
as they always have
The year is closing quickly closing
Not all in the world is bad

The earth is being nourished
Water tanks are filled
People stop in stillness
To reflect on what’s to come
