Plenty of teams were out chasing the jackpot last night, but once again it lives on for another week. With the prize climbing, you’ll want to get your entries in early for next week — it’s shaping up to be a big jackpot.

Congratulations to our lucky rink winners Alan Britt, Keith Spearing and Mark Holten on a great result.

Great story to read. We play bowls for so many reasons, the competition and the friendships we make along the way.

There’s something pretty special about this photo.

Two women, standing on the edge of the green, sharing a cuddle before the game begins.

And while it might look like a simple moment, it represents so much of what bowls is really about.

Because you don’t always know what the person standing beside you is carrying. Maybe they’ve had a hard week. Maybe they’re nervous about the game. Maybe they just need someone to remind them that they’re not alone.

And sometimes, all it takes is a hug.

That’s the beautiful thing about women’s bowls.

In a small country town, our bowling club becomes so much more than somewhere you come to play a sport. It becomes a place where women meet, friendships grow and ordinary afternoons turn into memories you’ll carry for years.

You come along to have a roll… and before you know it, you’ve found women who cheer for you, laugh with you, stand beside you when things don’t go your way and celebrate your wins as if they were their own.

Some of the friendships made on a bowling green will last a lifetime.

And that’s why women in bowls matter.

We need women of all ages out there. We need the experienced players teaching the newcomers. We need women encouraging other women instead of competing against each other off the green. We need our younger girls to see women playing, leading, laughing, having a go and taking up space in a sport they can call their own.

Because bowls gives women something that can be hard to find as we get older , a place to belong.

It gives us connection. Purpose. Confidence. Friendship. A reason to get out of the house, meet new people and be part of something bigger than ourselves.

And in a little country town, that matters.

So here’s to the women who turn up. The women who encourage. The women who clap from the sideline. The women who pick each other up after a bad bowl. The women who celebrate every win. And the women who give their teammates a cuddle before they even step onto the green.

Because at the end of the day, the bowls might be what brings us together…

but the friendships are what keep us coming back.

And maybe that’s the greatest part of the game.
