Today, Thursday 10 September, is R U OK? Day — a national day of action reminding us of the importance of meaningful connection and checking in with the people around us.
While today is a great opportunity to ask the question, “Are you OK?”, it’s important to remember that these conversations can happen any day of the year.
Sometimes, a simple check-in can make a real difference. If you notice someone may be struggling, trust your instinct and take the time to connect.
The R U OK? conversation framework provides four simple steps:
💬 Ask – Trust your instinct and start a conversation.
👂 Listen – Give them your time and listen without judgement.
🤝 Encourage action – Support them to identify what might help.
❤️ Check in – Follow up and let them know you’re there for them.
As a team, let’s continue to look out for one another, make time to connect and create an environment where people feel comfortable speaking up when they’re not OK.
Remember, you don’t need to have all the answers — sometimes simply being there and listening is enough.
