🏌️‍♀️ Clive & Olive Williams Memorial Day 🏌️‍♂️

It’s that time of year when our calendar is filled with Honouboard events, and we take the opportunity to revisit some of the wonderful family memories and traditions that have supported Ayr Golf Club through the decades.

Yesterday, we celebrated the Clive & Olive Williams Memorial Day, and what a special day it was! The turnout was incredible with 69 players taking to the course that has been worked on extensively all week by our Ground Staff and volunteers. There has been a lot going on at the Ayr Golf Club in recent weeks and so much work from so many. All of those who have had a hand in what has gone on out there on the course we are so so grateful for your contribution.

We are incredibly fortunate to still have Tuk Williams as part of our club, along with her late husband Clive’s brothers and son John, who continue to generously support this event with some incredible prizes.

This year, we were delighted to have Terry Williams in attendance alongside John, with both sharing heartfelt thoughts about what this special day means to their family.

Terry reminded us that 2026 marks their 58th year of sponsoring this event in honour of their beloved parents, Clive and Olive. ❤️
Fifty-eight years of generosity, family tradition and unwavering support is truly something special.

Ayr Golf Club is so grateful to the Williams family for continuing this wonderful legacy and helping us keep Clive and Olive’s memory alive.

Night golf attracted 66 players. Tee-off was at 6:30 pm with a sh***un start, and play concluded at 8:30 pm.
Three teams tied at one over par (28), leading to a closest-to-the-pin chip-off. Lucas Brady and Cory Watt took out the win and the $200 prize.
Trevor Jones won the $200 meat tray! The lucky door prize went to Erlo Jones, who received a $50 voucher from Butcher on Queens!
The $200 hole-in-one chipping competition didn’t go off, but the closest attempt finished just 30 cm from the hole. Better luck next time!

Please arrive 15 minutes before your tee time.

A couple of other notices,

Girls Scholarship coaching that was postponed from Tuesday, will now be held this Tuesday coming with Tara, at 3.30pm. Tuesday 22nd September.

Also, we will be putting in for a new scholarship for 2027 next month, if you know of any new girls that might be interested in starting junior golf next year please get in touch with myself or Steph. Details on the flyer below. We will add the junior girls that have actively played this year in to the application and hopefully we receive the funding for next year.

There will be a break for two weekends over the school holidays, with Juniors returning on the 10th October.

Recovery Works Complete – A Great Result for our club!
We’re excited to announce the successful completion of two major disaster recovery projects at Ayr Golf Club, made possible through $49,412 in Sport and Recreation Recovery Grant funding.

The project was jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, following the impact of the North and Far North Tropical Low 29 January – 28 February 2025.

Tee Number 13 – New Retaining Wall
The previous retaining wall suffered significant damage due to water saturation and soil movement. It has now been replaced with a strong new block wall, providing a safer and more durable solution.

Causeway and Pathway – Between the 9th Tee and Green
Rectification works have been completed in this area to improve performance, safety and presentation. The accessway has been concreted and drainage has been added to create a safer, more practical and accessible route between the 9th tee and green.

This weekend it was the Ayr Mens Open, proudly sponsored by Sibson Accounting. Scott and his team have been incredible with their continued sponsorship for our Annual Event and we sincerely thank him for his contribution.
The Ayr Open is conducted over 2 days and 76 players over three grades were competing for amazing prizes. Many NTP opportunities along with daily winners went home with prizes.
The competition went off without a hitch and from all reports our course and greens are in fabulous condition. Big shout out to the Ground staff and volunteers for all their hard work.
To all the committee and members who came along to help with food preparation and course presentation, along with our bar staff and competition organisers, it takes many hands to pull off a weekend like this.
Our overall champion for 2026 was our very own Josh Searle who had two incredible rounds of golf with 2 rounds of 69. Enjoy the photos and the list of all the other major winners.
