The answer is almost always no, you don’t need to be fit, you don’t need any martial arts experience, you don’t need to “prepare” before your first class. At Grappling Bros, we welcome beginners of all ages, and some of our most committed students started well after 40.

Giovanni is a black belt. And everyone who trained alongside him knows exactly what that means.

It is not a title. It is a record. Of every Tuesday night when life was busy and he came anyway. Every round where nothing went right and he showed up the following week without excuses. Every tap that taught him something. Every correction that made him better. Every year of quiet, consistent work that the mat watched and remembered long before anyone said a word about it.

A black belt in BJJ cannot be rushed. Cannot be performed. Cannot be faked in front of people who train with you every week. It has to be built. Piece by piece, session by session, over more time than most people are willing to give.

Giovanni gave it. Today the community that watched him build this gets to celebrate what it already knew was coming. And Giovanni gets to wear the evidence of everything he chose to become.
