Fit. Your future!

26/08/2026

Have you ever watched someone do a movement at CrossFit and thought:

“I could never do that.”

Maybe it was a muscle-up, double-unders, handstand walk, anything with a barbell or even something that seems simple to everyone else.

Here is something to think about l: “I can't do it” and “I can't do it YET” are very different statements.

A growth mindset is the belief that our abilities can develop through learning, practice, challenge and feedback.

That doesn't mean everyone will become elite at everything. It means we don't automatically assume that our current ability is the limit of what we are capable of doing or learning.

Your brain is constantly adapting. When you learn a new movement, practise a skill or work through something difficult, your nervous system is developing and strengthening the pathways involved in that skill.

So the next time you struggle with something at the box, gym, work or everyday life, try changing the language.

Instead of:

“I can't do this.”

Try:

“I can't do this YET.”

That little word can change the way you approach the challenge.

Your current ability is a snapshot, not a final result.

This week, notice how often you say “I can't” and see if you can replace it with “I can't yet”.

𝗨𝗻𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝘆𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲’𝘀 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀

At the moment I am studying to complete my CrossFit Level 3 trainer qualification as well as do my Level 2 again to get some good hands on coaching as well, a bit of what someone once said was sharpening the saw. Taking that time to keep learning and keep using that knowledge to help people live fitter, healthier lives.

There is actually a fair bit of theory behind CrossFit the methodology and how best to administer it to the broader population.

Going and reading all of the past Journal articles, the study and training guides, opinion pieces from the CrossFit coaching staff, and seeing one of the workouts they have used in the community cup that was the Hopper at the 2007 CrossFit games has had me review and get back to the roots of CrossFit.

Sometimes you just have to start!

You don’t need to know what you will do. Where you will go. Just get going.

I have opened with that as this week I have sat and looked at the screen and thought, ‘I have too many ideas and don’t know what to write about!’

So here I am telling you to just get going and start.

Now it doesn’t matter what that is. Building model aircraft, painting a wall, picking up your old musical instrument, getting your tax return done. It could be anything.

I will use exercise as an example as I feel that a lot of the lessons I have learnt and passed on to those in the gym flow over to a lot of other areas of our lives. And this one is definitely one of them.
