Cruisy day out on the water today, clear skies and sunshine and a great way to wrap up the winter series with overall 1st PHF and 2nd IRC (and 3rd IRC today). Thanks to the team for the sail and thanks to the dolphins for keeping us company out there today 🧡🧡

Last race of the Valmdre is done. Started well with 1st around the day buoy and first mark. Unfortunately the plan to sail offshore for better breeze, but more waves, was thwarted by the river boats that stayed close to shore in flat water and a dying breeze that saw 6 boats finish together.

2nd IRC for the day.
2nd IRC, and 3rd PHF for the series.

Congratulations to the winners.

Smug photo of skipper towards the bottom.

Also note that under 35s are in for special attention at FSC. Given that youth are often in large numbers on the 2Up crew maybe their patience with us older sailors will be rewarded soon…

Well the boss is back!

After a few flags while Skipper Barry was away he was obviously fired up for a result for the winter series race.

Breeze was moderate from the north around 14-18 with a small swell making it a bit bumpy at times.

Crew were on their toes and the lash was out as Skipper demanded all the big sails got a go. Code zero after the first mark, a gibe peal into the A2 after the second mark (with some minor issues). Windward drop, reach leg, shy spinnaker leg then an upwind to the finish.

Results - 1st IRC, 1st PHF. Not a bad comeback.

Photos show the calm before the storm and the picturesque wispy clouds over the boats in the starting sequence.

And of course, anyone that has ever sailed with Barry will know the description above is an attempt at humour, any resemblance to Captain Bligh is fictional.

Took the media manager sailing with us on Saturday. She did an amazing job on main, took this photo, but has been very quiet on the socials - probably a bit tired…

Tough conditions with a heavy weather course for the 3rd Valmadre. Conditions were expected to calm down but 25-28 knots pre-start saw plenty of reefs. We went with small sails given that the skipper was still away and we didn’t want to break anything.

Probably a bit conservative with sail selection most of the day but a good safe day out with some great sailors doing their thing. Glad the boat and crew got around without damage as some other boats seemed to have issues.

Some confusion around results as the heavy weather start is a choose your own start in a 20 min window. Elapsed time calcs were done twice and we were belatedly awarded 3rd IRC and 3rd PHS.

Winners are grinners (even when skip is away in Bali) 🧡🧡
