When Brittney Baker returned to the baseball mound this season after starting a family, being selected in her first Australian squad wasn’t on the radar.

Having narrowly missed out on Emeralds squads in the past, Baker finally got the call. It comes after having not played since before Covid.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Baker said. “I was a little stunned to be honest."

She said she never expected to get the opportunity.
“It’s a dream come true,” she said. “My road to being in the Emeralds has been quite up and down as I’ve been in and out with family and injury. I went to the nationals this year and played really well.”

Baker became emotional talking about her journey back to baseball and being an inspiration for her son Bellamy, who is now four.

She only returned to playing in the recent season.

“When I fell pregnant with my son, it was unexpected,” she said. "I was at my peak, young and fit and not much else going on. It happened as [the pandemic] was happening and I was out for four years. Everyone was asking if I would play nationals this year or try for the national team.

"I said I would do what I could and if it fell into place, I would take the opportunity.
It fell into place and I couldn’t be prouder that I can show my son what I can do.”

Results from this weekends baseball.
Our Sunday result will have to wait till tomorrow. But our Thursday night game was a close one, just falling short in the fog.
A mixed array of results this week, but positives will come and lessons will be learnt.

Congratulations to Harvey Coone, being chosen to represent Footscray (via Sunshine) at this weekends State Winter Championships for City West.

Well done Harvey. Seeing your baseball skills grow has been amazing and we can’t wait to see what you do next.

Congratulations Zac Gorman! We have loved following your journey from home grown larrikin to making your way through the ranks of College Baseball. Can’t wait to see what you do next! 🧀

This post gives me great joy; I have been associated with this young man since he was 8 years old and I started teaching him how to use the tools of ignorance (catchers gear), as an 8 year old and put him on the U12 championship team, this kid has won countless championships since then and at Central Maine CC, also won the MVP for the Yankee Small College Tournament.
A huge congratulations to Zac Gorman, who has de-committed to Daytona Beach Christian University and has now committed to Point Park University, a DII in Pittsburgh!
Thank yous to Coach Brett Turenne, and Coach Thomas Eaton, I know you guys spoke about future possibilities, right on man!

Even with the midweek game tomorrow, we still have our regular weekend of baseball coming up.

Our Round 1 game has finally been rescheduled against Knox.
Our A3 team head out to Knox this Thursday to face under lights in a top of the table clash!
