Orienteering this Sunday
Wolfram near Mangoplah - AWOC v Waggaroos Interclub Challenge #6 -
Sunday 23 August.
Named for its history of tungsten mining in the area, the Wolfram map is in the Livingstone State Conservation Area near Burrandana about 30km south of Wagga.
Interclub Challenge: This will be the 6th and final Interclub Challenge event for this year. One point is awarded to each participant for starting; a second point is awarded for successfully completing the course; and bonus points are awarded to placegetters. The club with the highest total points wins. After five events AWOC leads 217:180. It's close and we need AWOCers participating to maintain our lead. So, come along, do the course of your choice and earn points for AWOC.
Terrain: The map will be 1: 10,000 scale and the terrain is undulating spur gully in pleasant bush. Spring weather??
Courses:
Long Hard 6.0km
Medium Hard 4.5km
Short Hard 3.2km
Moderate 2.5km
Easy 1.6km Participants on the Easy Course will need to follow tapes from control 6 to control 7.
Directions from Albury: Drive to Cookadinia either via Culcairn and Morven, or Holbrook. At Cookadinia proceed north along
Holbrook Rd towards Mangoplah and Wagga Wagga. After 8km turn right into Paper Forest Road. Continue for 6.5km to the T-junction and turn left to stay on Paper Forest Road. After 1.4km at the next T-junction turn left into Burrandana Rd. Continue for 600m across Burkes Creek and immediately turn right into Grass Tree Fire Trail. Follow Grass Tree F/T as it bends left and proceed north along the unsealed road past Burrandana Hall. After 400m go through the gate and veer right along Grass Tree F/T. (O-sign). Follow Grass Tree F/T past Floyds Tk for a further 2km to the assembly area at the junction of Grass Tree F/T and Long Gully F/T (GPS: -35.398358, 147.354587).
Note: Drive slowly and take care negotiating the numerous humps on the road, particularly cars with low clearance.

GOOMBARGANA Near Rand
- AWOC v Waggaroos Interclub Challenge #5

Sunday 26th July. Starts 10.00 - 11.00am.
Location: Co-ordinates 35.7259S 146.5624E

Directions: From Albury head north towards Jindera / Walbundrie but do not take the turn into Walbundrie. Instead continue west towards Berrigan on Daysdale Road for 15km. Turn left towards Corowa on the Corowa-Rand Road. After 3.6km turn left (east) through gate to property and follow 'O' signs to assembly area.

ORIENTEERING TRAINING EVENT:
Monument Hill Area -
Sunday 12th July. Starts 10.00 - 11.00am.

Start: Padman Park at corner of Day Street and Padman Drive, Albury (opposite Frankies)
Training: Street and Park orienteering. IDEAL FOR BEGINNERS. You take a map and find as many controls as you can in 60 minutes by navigating through the streets and parks of West Albury everywhere from Monument Hill to the Riverside.
Entry: No fee for 'training events'. You can come along and enter on the day.
Coffee: Coffee afterwards on Frankies veranda.
