Look out! Turtles about! π’
School holidays have started, which means more cars and people on our beaches! It also means our turtle friends are currently nesting at Bribie Island and we're expecting baby turtles in the New Year, YAY! π
With that in mind, we ask everyone to take extra care when visiting our beaches these holidays, to prevent disturbing them and their nests.
Here are some ways you can help:
π’ Keep off sand dunes and only use beach umbrellas well below the dunes
π’ Do not drive 4x4βs above the high tide mark.
π’ Do not interfere with turtle nests
π’ Dispose of plastics and unwanted fishing gear responsibly
π’ Follow directions in 'go slow' areas and look out for turtles when boating
π’ If you live or are staying next to the beach, switch off unnecessary lights and close curtains and blinds from 7:30pm, to reduce light pollution and prevent turtles becoming disoriented
πΈ Shout out to Bribie Island Turtle Trackers for the photo.
