A little trip down memory lane to what Soapbox Championships looked like back in 1993! 🚚🏁

We’ve attached a few photos (copies of the original photos we still have) taken during the 1993 Championships. At the time, this was believed to be the largest number of karts ever towed up the hill at once β€” from memory, around 60 karts! It was truly an incredible sight and something spectacular to witness.

To make it happen, the tow hitch had to be heavily modified to safely tow that many karts up the hill. Looking back at these photos 32 years later has certainly brought back many great memories.

The truck behind the job was a Kenworth K100, powered by a 475HP Detroit diesel engine with an 18-speed Road Ranger gearbox, generously donated in service for the Championships.

What makes this story even more special is that there were no family ties to the Club β€” it was simply done as a true act of community spirit. Personal time and the truck were fully donated to help make the Championships possible.

A huge thank you to Bob and Rita Mears for sharing these memories and helping us reflect on just how far Soapbox racing has come over the years. ❀️🏁

Finally, after a two-month break (with last month’s race day cancelled due to rain) following our National Championships at Easter, we were finally back racing for our Race Day/Papa Smurf Day! πŸπŸ’™

It was so nice to come together again, enjoy an awesome day of racing, and finally have the chance to debrief on our Championships.

Papa Smurf Day is a special day where kids are encouraged to race with a happy smile, help out around the club, impress our President, and have the chance to receive a beautiful trophy made and donated by our President, Larry.

A huge congratulations to Saleem for making the President and committee proud with all the effort you put into the club. Your sportsmanship, willingness to help our younger club members, and helping with set up and pack down never go unnoticed. We are incredibly proud of you! It’s definitely sad knowing this is your last year racing with us.

Our next race meet will be on Sunday 21st June at our usual hill on Apex Dr. We hope to see everyone there for another fantastic day of racing! 🏎️
