Glenelg Vet - Gentle and Caring

03/08/2026

A big warm welcome to our newest veterinarian, Dr Angus Winwood!
Angus joins us from a well-respected veterinary practice in the Adelaide Hills, where he built a reputation for providing thoughtful, compassionate care to both pets and their families.
Just like his namesake, Dr Angus McCurdie, he’s approachable, dedicated and knowledgeable and we’re incredibly excited to have him join the Glenelg Vet Clinic team.
The only challenge now is making sure we don’t get the two Angus’ mixed up! If you hear someone calling “Angus” around the clinic, don’t be surprised if they both turn around. 😄 Please join us in giving Angus a very warm welcome!

🚨Important Update: Temporary Restriction on Avian Patients 🚨

Following the recent announcement by the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) regarding a confirmed case of H5 bird flu in wild sea birds, we are upgrading our biosecurity protocols. While the risk to the general public is low, we believe it’s important for our clients and community to stay informed and take sensible precautions.

⚠️Effective immediately, we are unable to accept any birds into our clinic ⚠️

To protect our staff, our clients, and the vulnerable hospitalized animals currently in our care, no avian species will be permitted on the premises. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our environment safe for everyone.

📞If you find a sick or dead wild bird: Do not touch or handle it. Instead, take photos or a video, record your location and report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888 📞

It’s important to stay informed and prepared so here’s what you should know:
❓What is H5 bird flu?
H5 bird flu is a viral disease that primarily affects birds but can also affect other animals, and on rare occasions, humans.
❓How has it spread to other countries?
H5 bird flu can spread through the movement of migratory birds and is spread through direct contact with infected animals and their environment.

How can you help?
❌AVOID - contact
📷 RECORD - what you see, date time & location
☎️ REPORT - to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888

If you have any questions regarding a bird you have found please call the clinic on 8295 1312 and our staff will be able to help and point you in the right direction.
