Hills ventured north to play in the White Ribbon Round at Barossa Park against the might of the PHOS Phantoms. The Hills fought hard all game, in what can only be described as atrocious conditions, held their own. The backline was under constant pressure but withstood this extremely well with our second quarter was one of the best for the year with smooth transition and strong marking up forward particular from Leigh 'good knee' Otten.

The second half saw what can only be described as biblical rain descend on Lyndoch it also became hard to see the actual ball. Even the most dedicated of spectators had their resolve tested Kim Pearce taking his leave to pursue some red cans in warmer circumstances.

The wet conditions suited some of the tigers with Brock Gifford and Ben Fleming providing good in and under pressure in the rolling maul of contested packs. In sad news the Super Tigers plastic box is finally kaput, the jumpers weighed down with water adding too much strain.

A good all round effort from the Tigers with Terry Watkins leading the way with his black eye a symbol of his hardness at the contest. Huggs does what he usually does and picked up the opposition best player award not for the first time this season, possibly helped by his Bailey Smith head wear.

IMPORTANT CARNIVAL REGISTRATION UPDATE

Last weekend, the AFL Masters Board and State Presidents met in Melbourne to review carnival registrations and confirm team nominations for Newcastle 2026.

We have now reached 1,300 registered players, with many teams already at capacity—well ahead of the original 31 July registration cut-off.

While registrations currently remain open, PlayHQ registrations will be frozen from 5pm this Sunday to allow the Board and States to review numbers and finalise team compositions.

Teams that still require additional players will be identified, allowing States to support any last-minute registrations where places remain available. With limited game slots, grounds and resources, team numbers must now be carefully managed.

Our goal is to have all teams finalised by 31 July so work can continue on:

🏉 Divisions and fixtures
🏉 Player permits
🏉 Ground allocations
🏉 Final team planning

If you attempt to register and receive a “team locked” message, please contact your State representative, who can add you to the appropriate waitlist.

With registrations filling earlier each year, players are strongly encouraged to register early for future carnivals to give themselves the best opportunity to wear their State colours.

Match Report

The Hills Supertigers took on Riverland Superdogs in conditions better suited to four legs than two, although the rain held off for the hour allocated to our game which was great. In what was a pretty good game considering, the team started to show some of the 'Green Shoots' interim coach Scott (Josh Fraser) Colegate has been talking about. Scott has ruled himself out of the vacant job quoted as saying 'why would i take on a job that's been vacant for more than 10 years'. Star defender Michale Hill played another brilliant game at full back proving players always lift in their contract extension year (think Jake Stringer). Phil Jonas made a welcome return from retirement, C grade footy or SAAS survivor where he's been for the last few seasons. He continues a trend of players returning from the wilderness just after I repurpose their magnets (Brock). Sadly we suffered several hamstring injuries with Terry and Daniel looking at a stint with Zak Butters in the stands. A lot of good players with special mention to Fluff who had at least 3 clearances and if you follow the page can be seen shepherding for a fellow player as Ross would say very un super rules.

Match Report- May 17 v Brumbys

We took on a very strong West side desperate to get one over us after we have held the upper hand in recent years. Hopefully Pearcy kept his money in his pocket for this one. Despite a less than flattering scoreboard we acquitted ourselves well and kicked a score at least this week. Very encouraging form from the new players to the team, Jason, Simon and Evan. Hilly kicked a brilliant scissor kick goal after a bullet pass from Evan to keep his resurgent form going. Brilliant snap from the pack by Terry Watkins who again played a very solid game in the centre. Great to see Marty Poole who certainly straightens us up - well most of us. Other highlights include Michael Huggard's goal from CHB courtesy of a >100m penalty and Chris Masotti taking the ball from the ruck about 10 times in a quarter. Thanks to Scotty C for coaching from the sidelines, providing general encouragement although the one job he was trusted with he failed - to record the very modest list of goal kickers.

Special mention to Cuban for a long stint in the ruck and Bags who battled hard in the forward line against some very solid guys.
