🌟The Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (SASNOC) extends its warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to our President, Tuaopepe Asiata Jerry Wallwork, on his historic election as the new President of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation (CWF). 🌟

🤝Tuaopepe was elected to the prestigious leadership role at the CWF Congress held in Glasgow, Scotland on July 31st, which concluded alongside the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Representing 45 member nations, the congress voted decisively to entrust Tuaopepe with guiding the federation for a four-year term. This incredible milestone makes him one of the few Pacific island sports administrators to head a global Commonwealth sporting federation.
✨Tuaopepe's election follows a lifetime of profound contribution to the sport. A former elite athlete who represented Samoa at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, he seamlessly transitioned into coaching and administration. Under his tenure as Head Coach and President of the Samoa Weightlifting Federation, he has transformed Samoa into a world-class weightlifting powerhouse. He has produced numerous international champions, including Olympic silver medalist Ele Opeloge, as well as multiple Commonwealth and Oceania gold medalists.
🇼🇸 This is not just a personal victory for Tuaopepe, but a monumental achievement for Samoa and the entire Pacific sporting community. Tuaopepe’s unwavering grit, vision, and deep love for our youth have long been the driving force behind Samoa's weightlifting triumphs. To see his expertise recognized globally is immensely gratifying. We have total confidence that he will steer the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation to new heights with the same exceptional standard of leadership."In addition to his newly acquired CWF presidency and his role as President of SASNOC (elected in April 2025), ✨Tuaopepe continues to serve on the Executive Board of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and as Senior Vice-President of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation.
His immediate priority as CWF President hits close to home. Samoa has officially been named the host country for the upcoming Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in March 2027. This landmark tournament will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the championships and will serve as an official Olympic qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. For the first time in history, all 45 Commonwealth member nations are expected to travel directly to Apia to participate.
